I chucked the bypass shim, it raises the venting pressure.

Any pressure over 45psi is wasted anyway and leads to higher oil temp and power wasted

    :iagree
    Everything looks new!

The new ECU should be there in a couple of days too.
Confused why you put the box on after - surely it's easier off the car?

-permatex copper (highest temp permatex i belive). ive also found its easier than fipg. but i have been vey tempted to use the cork gasket that i have. i think stig uses them.

    - actually i found with the head off, i can stand in the bay and lift the motor. then the ole lady just has to stuff the bolt in. with the motor hanging i can stradle the block and lift the tranny into place and bolt it up myself. its waayyy easier if you use the correct alignment tool for the clutch (in with kit), than that stupid universal tool. last time it took me 3 attempts with a buddy because the clutch wasnt properly aligned. this time it was a one shot deal, i was amazed. I then set my jack on a skateboard and lifted the tranny up to get the other mount aligned. it all went together really easy. probably helps ive done it a few times and taped and cleaned most of the bolts and holes. all locktited btw.

-as a stupid gripe to add. i couldnt find the pressure plate to fly bolts, so i went and bought new ones 10x1.25 (iirc, but doesnt matter). if you buy a bolt with a metric size and metric thread pitch, why the hell would you make the head standard?!?!? luckily i have a 13mm socket.

head on torqued to 60ft. lbs in stages, rechecked 24hrs later. (no change)

ITS ALIVE!!!!! runs and idles, only forgot 1 connection at of the harness to the fuel pump by the ecu. and had to retighten the heater core hose that feeds the control switch.

speed souce poly motor mounts an aluminum crossmember kits. on the cross member kit...use the stock bolts, not the ones provided. the stock have a nub on the end so you can have the bolt slightly misaligned to start it and there longer. i was having a horrid time trying to get the new bolts in, used the stockers and it went right in.

:iagree , your engine cleaners are a lot better than mine

Why you not using the stock spring type hose clamps? I've had endless crap with the screw types

I love that old CSF Radiator you have; all-metal end tanks and 2-row core :drool5
Too bad it's out of production now :sad
Is there a part number on it?

    -thanks.
-i painted it too stig. i would also like to say the strut brace was that way when i got it! but ill fix it soon. im actually opposite. i have had endless crap with the spring type, yet no issues with the screw type. ?.

-ill check on the radiator, it is metal. but i want to say its only a single row. maybe just the cap. iirc. an auto rad is 2 row with a cooler which i think i have. (?) also when i was looking for a new rad, the guy said theyve switched everything to auto types. that way they only have 1 for all of our cars, since its nearly out of production stuff. i check for #'s.

Re: Re: project "what the hell did i do?" motor and tranny

-went out and started it up a bit...few new things i need to fix. i either need the starter mod or a new starter silenoid (most likley) as i can hear something spinning but not engaging the sarter. the p.s. side axle seal leaks. there is an issue with the iac, either the its bad or the seal is, if i rev the motor and shut it off then pop off the intake tube there is a small amount of coolant in there, so i ordered a new iac valve hoping it comes with the new seals. the fuel gauge reads full yet the fuel light is on, so there is an issue somewhere there. i wouldnt have found this out had i not started the led dash swap because the low fuel light was burnt out.
