-ok heater core and sound mat are out. head and harness are out.

-i belive the bearings in cyl 1 & 2 are gone. pushed on the piston and they both droped about 1/8th in. i am now guessing the root cause was A BAD FRAM OIL FILTER. the valve is broken and rattling around inside the filter! when i went to look at the car it had a touch on the stick. we added 2qts. and it came out like 90w, black as can be. from what i can tell the bore also looks good you can still see hone marks in it. i have a hunch that the con rods and crank are gonna be toast though.
-also worth noting. i think the car is a cal car since it has a cal emission sticker on the hood, so ill use 09's originall ecu. not sure though so i may try the two different ecu's.
-has the energy suspension front sway bar bushings.
-im now wondering about the cams aswell. the inside of the head was very very clean. 09's original cams come to a noticable point, while the new car has a perfectly smooth journal. could the cams have been ground? im sure a few will see pm's about this. im starting to know how sean feels w/ the mystery mobile. :hehe

    -ok update.

    -interior.
--carpet is trimmed in except for the door stills. i am going to have the clips re-stapled to the new, and have the head liner, visors, sun roof cover done by the ole ladys cousin. all black. the seats actually look alright red and i swapped out all the plastic bits to black. so now its a black interior with red velvet seats! :hehe

    -ext.
--i repainted the wipers and trim bit under the windshield.

    -engine.
--old one is out today!!! (from the bottom :hehe )tranny and bay need a serious clean so i soaked it all with oil off type stuff and am gonna let soak and respray a few times this week.
--gonna take it apart tomorrow so i can get the flywheel and balancer to the machine shop and have the engine balanced. probably unnecisarry, but hey you only live once. not sure what there cooking up for cams but it seemed like delta had a pretty good handle on it.

-pics when the ole lady figures out her new cam...have pics just need to upload.

Don't think it can be "fixed". 1st 3 pages are gone into cyberspace & only way to
get them back is to re-write & re-post them

I got 15 pages missing if that's any consolation

Bores on that block don't look healthy at all?

Re: project "what the hell did i do?" ready for carpet

actually, i think the bores are ok. nasty looking oil and a bit of surface rust from sitting out. i turned it over by hand a few times and the rust went away. con rod bearings in 1 and 2 are toast, but i think it will be saveable if i ever get to it.

-time for a quick update i guess,

-i have recieved all but the mls head gasket. but should be here soon.
    -new parts include.

    -poly a-arm bushes-installed
    -poly motor mounts
    -alum shifter bushes
    -alum cross-member bushes
-new 02, temp sensor, a few others
    -new water pump
    -new idler and tensioner
    -new t.b.
    -ats high volume oil pump
-arp studs (recived today) mls gasket (in-transit)
    -new high pressure p.s. hose
    -new rad hoses
-ats egr delete (modded to fit ge exh mani)
    -sachs performance 6-puck kit
    -im sure im forgetting some.

-im also working on finding measurements on racks to try to convert to manual steering. if it works i will be able to delete the pump, resivour, lines, and headaches. i dont want to "convert" a p.s. rack, so im trying to find an oem manual rack and make it work (mr2 or carolla).
-engine bay is primmed and waiting for it to warm up a bit outside to paint.
    - i should have the bottom end by the end of the week or begining of next.
---bored/honed to 86.5, decked, new pistons, crank polished w/ o.s. bearings, new balancer, balanced w/ pressure plate.
-head will be completely rebuilt, w/ 3 angle, decked, ect. new cams are (i belive) 294int 282 exh. if that sounds right. i know all the info says not to go over 272 but delta cam says theyll help me and if neccisary regrind for free. cool guys there.
-also trying to figure out who can make me a 53" 4-1 mani :mrgreen<- based on info from r&t

Sounds good, glad you went 0.5mm oversize as #1&2 don't look good from here

    Head recon?
Cams sound hectic but should be fun with the "goody" I found this morning

I need one of those pumps! Mine's leaking internally and won't hold pressure when stopped,
I got to prime the motor before starting or it's bye-bye bearings :ack2

I think it's a good starting point and a base for future mods to #09

I saw an awesome set of 4-1 headers the other day (Tanaka - JDM's),
easy to copy but make the primaries as long as possible, get the collector behind the sump under the steering rack.
Firing order is correct (unlike most) and it looks simple to make
The Touring cars used the same idea but ran the pipes over the gearbox and down the back to get more length

    None, OBX looks similar though

Jon, I may have bad news. Check the new oil pump fits the block.
I tried fitting a GT4 pump to a gen1 block only to find the recess isn't deep enough
but it does fit the GTE, Gen2-3 blocks and 91- FE blocks

was worried about that too ... it fits :mrgreen

-i did however put it on, then tried to do the front main. not a smart move. bent the metal ring in the seal, so i gotta go get a new one.
-bottom end is near complete. ill take a pic of it and the oil pump when im back from yota.

You have an FE box for that? Driveshafts are FE

I need to see a pic of a piston at TDC, motor I looked at on the weekend was flush

Looking good, remember to keep those oil chanels sealed at all times.

Oil pump is OEM, GT4 pump I have has a deeper back. That one looks like the later 5S
type with a cutout for the crank angle sensor (it will work on all motors)

dunno on the box. never even though about it. how do you tell?

-will take a pic. the pistions are flush, maybe even barely under.

-i have heard that the ats is a late 5s with a shim.

Re: project "what the hell did i do?" pic dump

FE box - Driveshaft inners are the tulip type (yours) and the starter sits over the gearbox.
Flywheel/clutch is larger than GE type. Need to see pics of the flywheel/clutch as I suspect
it's the same as the GTE

Pistons are flush stock - need confirmation on that as mine aren't

Shim? - where do they put it? I'm using the same pump and there's no shim

Re: project "what the hell did i do?" pic dump

inners are tripoid type on both 09 and the new one...but ill have to take a closer look at 09. the only difference ive noticed on the axles is the steel ring on the p.s. side saft (pictured). if going off starter location, id do have a ge box as it sits under the mani.

-the by-pass is shimmed. im not sure if this means its a shim under the peg/above the spring. or if its just a thicker circlip. pans already on tho.
