    sound system and wiring

    Thanks i'm really happy with it!

    Nope the battery gauge doesn't move, only with windows or indicators.

    ~$750AU over 7 years good deal - and I can put it in any car i get in the future.
    Rear MTX 6x9's - $150
    Front Pioneer 4/5 in. - $50
    Headunit pioneer usb - $150
    Amp sony xplod 4 channel 500w - $200 in 2005.
    Sub JL Audio - $200 in 2012 -after xmas sale :D

    Once the interior is out of the way, its easy enough to trace the wires and see where your problem is. Do you have an aftermarket head unit? Some wiring pics/discussion here helped me a while back

    Radio/amps need their own supply as Trel has done, or they will overpower your dash wiring.

    Nice, car is coming along nicely. Tape up those loose wires and it'l look even better
    Did you get the screen trim back in? Trick is d/sided tape on those blue/yellow clips

    Cheers Stig!

    nah I haven't redone the front windscreen or used the clips, it seems rust free but the grey primer is showing through the white enamel.

    Got acrylic primer n white paint for the next attempt, all in good time, doesn't bother me too much.

    The last 4 times i've started it 'cold' it's been hard to start and the CEL has come on, it's code 22, coolant temp sensor/circuit.
    Starting it 'warm' after this has no problems.

    Today before oil change It struggled to start took 5 tries. When it did, the engine warmed up but no change on the temp gauge. Disconnected the fan switch plug and they worked.

    Later after I changed the oil it started perfectly, temp gauge was perfect, fans kicked in, no CEL.

    Picking up a new efi water temp sensor tomorrow just incase.

    Thinking it might be the cold start injector water sensor? I think i'll know if it's hard to start in the morning

    Lower Speedo cable, 20-40 bucks to get a new one made up or 90 from japan genuine, easy as once you find it on the gearbox, under the loom and intake

    Like i've read here, reach up from under the car. Tried the test, turn the needle in the top bit, made the speedo move so looked further down.

    New cable this week

    The water temp gauge is still dropping to its min and back to 11pm randomly. I've changed the efi temp sensor, there is plenty of coolant and i've sanded the terminal for the gauge sensor.
    It's not throwing a code after the temp sensor change but something's goin on.

    Its at 397000km, showing its age and doing what I can!

    It's maybe a contact failure in the temp sensor's wiring.

    Thanks guys I'm going to get a new dash temp sensor as well, and drop the coolant on the weekend, check everything out.

    Can I drive safely with the speedo cable disconnected from the transmission? Is the gear going to pop out?
    I need to leave the car for the day out in the sticks or take it there, remove the cable and come back later.
    Also need to let it cool down once i'm there... times a wastin

    No prob driving without the cable.
    A local speedo shop made a new one for 35.
    All good and speedo is working perfectly!

    New back disks and pads today, new fluid all round and new clutch fluid.

    I followed the coolant burping thread, no more problem with the coolant gauge... So far

    Everything's working nicely coming up to the big 400

    i got the car at 200,000 km ish, the car's never left West Australia, but covered a lot of it. If I could find a courier job using this car i'd clean up...

    Cheers i'm very happy for now, there is much work to be done, we'll see how far she goes :)

    After losing my engine to rebuild a while ago, i'm saving to get a 3sgte and learn to rebuild it. All in good time !

    The coolant temp gauge has been playing up again, dropping to the left and popping back to 11pm
    I have a new sensor to put in, but I was fiddling with the wire and It's working perfectly again.
    When it plays up, it doesn't match revs or speed, it does its own thing and doesn't rise above 11pm. The fans work perfectly and coolant is great.
    May be thermostat but cheapness rules now.

    Rust has come back around the windscreen and roof, I have a stronger rust converter and acrylic white paint and primer... Last year i used acrylic primer and enamel paint and it didn't seal the metal well and looks shitty.

    I have free time coming right up and a lot of projects waiting!

    Grab a soldering iron and put in new stuff after 20 odd years.

    The correct size of the guage wire and fuse can make a huge difference.

    Do it right the first time and guess what...............

    So far so good on the temp gauge!
    My last exam is this weekend, can't wait to get onto the car next week.

    I'm borrowing a gas soldering iron from old mate for a few jobs:

    Dash sensor wire and plug

    Stereo wires - going to solder them behind the dash and run the amp trigger and power wires through plastic tube like off the fuse box

    Ground points - My lights have been dim and windows slow for ages, and my rear defogger isn't defogging. This might help.
    engine->chassis
    engine->transmission
    transmission->chassis
    alternator->chassis
    Any others?

    Starter relay - Car starts fine but might do this now or later
    Fuel cut off switch -> Why not
