Wow ! Who's your brother ? I follow football but our team Coventry City has dropped down to the 3rd tier of football.
I'm friendly with both of those guys. We drove via touring bus to Manchester so I imagine we passed through Coventry.
His name is Scott Meyer and he was the starting keeper for his NCAA D-1 collegiate team, SIUE. They travelled to the UK for matches organized by First Point. They played very well and were congratulated by a number of folks who viewed them to be the best American footballers they'd seen to that point in time. Their coach teaches the European style of play and pitch organization which is uncommon for American college programs. He graduated recently and took steps to go professional. He was offered a position by an FC in Fort Lauderdale, FL, but decided he didn't want to live a life in hotels making little to no money for a chance that he'd MAYBE be called up to the MLS. All the while his non-footballer friends would be making money in business and moving on with life. I literally cried when he told me his decision. I still can't believe it. He was given such a gift, but life's circumstances conspired against him.
Yes it would've been great to meet up with you. When Willie came over, he didn't know anybody in person apart from Rich ( Alwayzsidewayz) and myself. We hadn't actually met in person before, just through the forum, but our common interest binds us together
Wayne.......we're sorry for hi-jacking your thread ! From left to right : Rich, myself, Willie and Roy
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention he got a private workout with FC Everton. They wanted him to stay for a week, but Everton was unable to work out the details with his college team before he left England. There are strict NCAA rules regarding amatuer vs. professional status so it was important to get some of that red tape ironed out first. He was then invited back to Everton for a time during the Christmas school break, but he injured the PCL in his kicking knee in November. For the remainder of the conference tournament he was in he had one of his backs take his goalkicks.
Right I have my THREAD back - woohoo! Back to my car (after a Wash, Declay and "Bathroom Shine" Polish :thumbsup
