ill see what condition the parts are in for you roy, i know the lid is broke off the middle piece though...
Over the last couple of days i didnt do much but what i have done is cleaned the bastard of a spot on the passenger side and also cleaned down the back of the firewall with kerosene, then wiped them down, and put rust convertor over the bare steel, so far its looking good, i know its slow progress but its progress all the same! :wink
To be honest, im up to my eyeballs on college project, once march comes this is back on the table again, i hope to have it driving for the summer! hopefully... i just need to finish cleaning and rust proofing the welds and then i can prime the bay, once it comes to that im sorted! Will do an update very soon! Im still knockin around guys, so dont worry! :smug
I guess the back is allright when you buy a motorcycle? I'm really excited to what you "feel" after the welds you made to make her more rigid.
to be honest it gets better with the cold for some strange reason?? i know that sounds weird but it happens! The bike i bought was just for comfort more so than anything else, thats why i didnt buy a sports bike but when you wear the back support with it its like sitting in a car! in and out to college nice and easy! im looking forward to seeing how it feels also! should be very good ....:ewink
After the cold cold COLD (and wet) winter... decided to see how the FE123 protected the car after the winter just by itself and got to say im quiet impressed... This was the way the car sat all winter the side that wasnt protected , some rust formed on the welds but not bad... and the protected side, no rust whatsoever! Thrilled!
yeah if you find the right product it works really well I drove around all winter once with a panel that looked similar to yours with just the rust converter covering bare metal and in the spring there was no sign of any new rust
College is finished for this year and i now have a degree as a computer and electronic engineer... More time to myself for the summer and i decided the first thing i was going to do was sort the shed and do a bit of work. I know i have been missing in action but i was lurking! so i cleaned the shed and now have loads of room! feeling quiet good with myself i decided to do a bit on the car itself, inspecting the panel , cleaning and rustproofing. so now onto the following side of the panel. Got this stuff a while back and its excellent for cleaning and descaling the steel before rustproofing. it needs to be diluted before use to 1 parts acid to 4 parts water . it gets in everywhere and then its left to do its work for half an hour or so and it removes all the rust. rinse off with water and the steel is like new, really saves me lots of time cleaning. So then rust converter on the cleaned parts... And today is another day.
Congratulations dude, I'm glad to hear you're back on the bike too. Car looks great, are you going to respray the whole thing engine bay and all?
Congratulations on the degree ! Looks good what you've done to the Celica and that stuff works wonders. Looking forward to more progress.
Thanks guys! just have to study a little bit for the last two exams and its going to be a celica summer for me! can wait to paint the bay, its getting very close Ill have a lot of little electronic gadgets to fit aswell if all goes to plan!
l know, me either! getting more and more excited as the jobs come together which is brilliant! I was passing through the local town and i spotted an immaculate st162 so i pulled over and had a chat for a few minutes, he recommended a painter and he also has a celica supra which is being painted at the moment, he's going to give me a ring when he gets it back and i can see how the paint comes out! :wink
Are you planning to race this car? Just wondering cause that seam welding is what we usually do to our racecars to make them stiffer. I haven't done it to the '87, but the '86 will get the full seam welding treatment when I build it up!
Didnt have time to be honest and i was so chocked to see another one aswell! Road as a weekend car, i have the shed and time to do it so i said why not! should handle like a racking kart when finished! looking forward to getting it done to be honest
