Thanks for the confidence boost guys, i think I've finally come to the end of rustproofing the engine bay. finished it off yesterday, so now its time to sand it all down and give it a coat of etch primer to cover the steel and prevent any rust forming.

Having the acid makes life so much better for cleaning the steel in the engine bay

There was a small few bits on the front that needed welding before i could finish.

    and now! all rustproofed.

So now the next thing is to clean down the whole bay and get the etch primer out and prime the seams and any bare metal

Guys.... Its been a while, but distance makes the heart grow fonder. Im here and im ive got an update. To all the new guys who I missed, welcome. I'm Sean, from the emerald isle (Ireland) . You might all be wondering why nothing got done, theres multiple reasons, the first one and the major one being the fact I hate cleaning.... But a buddy of mine who seen the car sitting in the shed for so long and knew how much id love to get it back said "Fuck it, if you want it so bad ill help you clean the engine bay". So today was the day. He spent two hours helping me clean and now i'm back! I've it cleaned and primed ready for seam sealer! and boy am I so happy to have it done! its been a while..... alot has happened since you all have heard from me but i am adamant to get it done, it is a just a car, but at the end of the day it holds a special place in my heart because there's a story behind it all that i probably never said much about but when its done i will tell.
But for the moment, here are photos (ye all love photos) :p

    Ready for primer

The main reason it took so long is because i was dreading cleaning the engine bay, i had all the stuff there but i just hate that job....
I got a 2004 e46 320cd (Coupe Diesel) 150bhp 6 speed. a miser on diesel! so all is good. very very quick diesel.

I'm now a fully qualified Computer and Electronic engineer , and i'm currently in further studies and working for Cisco systems under an internship scheme the college runs. Great experience so far and im loving every minute of it.

So you're a computer boffin

When you say you hate to clean the engine bay, does the same apply with polishing a car ?

Im quite the wiz alright when it comes to everything electrical... Just the joys of my course, it covers everything.

Cleaning the bay for paint is different than cleaning the car itself, it needs to be 100% clean so the paint can stick without contamination.

Its funny because everyone seems to think that we all just look like that, its mad to see how people act in the office, there all adventure seekers and only do the job because of the massive pay!
