piston is 3/4 of an inch over the block...

your right about the cams!!! i read the wrong part! there kelford cams!! whoops...
    http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/perform ... ngine/Cams

i didnt beleive the machinest i brought it to the first time when he told me that the crank was much smaller than what it should be... so i sent the engine to poland to get the work done... and he said the same thing... acl bearings wouldnt fit they were too loose soo the machinest in poland had too buy them and he measured the crank and he said it was the exact same as the new one from the 1.8 ... not my wod... im just saying what the two machinests told me...

i dont know what octane you have in america but in the emerald isle we have 98 octane
if you want more pics ill post them when i get time but the whole cylinder head was ported and fully refurbished.

he put all new coated valves and cups with tighter springs...i thought myself that it was a bit off but it seems to pull a hell of alot more than any of the other 3sge's ive seen?? so i was just taking it for granted thats what it was??? because that was what it was rated for by the machinest?? and with a compression ratio ive never seen so high on any other engine??? well im happy to agree with you if you can just help me boost it up near 200...then ill be thrilled! i dont honestly care what has too be done to get there ill get it sorted! but i still want my engine silky smooth is all im goin to say!!

    Interesting

What you have there are Beams pistons - 10.5:1 CR
The block is a Gen2/3 or 5S block (the oil cooler mount is a giveaway)
I think you mistook the 4S crank for a gen7 (It's the same stroke as the 2.2L with smaller journals)

These are the std 9:1 pistons and the Gen2 9.5:1 pistons, each progressive gen they bumped
the compression for a few cheap ponies.
I worry for you when they drop the 98 RON to 95 or less like in the rest of the world.
At the moment the cams are dropping the compression ratio and probably why it's still together

The head has been skimmed to the max, any more and it will crack the valve seats
What size injectors do you have?

I'd like to see a dyno chart as (IMHO) I can't see more than 170-180hp with this motor?

Re: my fourth gen, 1990, 2ltr gt

ya it blew out the first steel head gasket that i put into it and that had to be replaced... problem was , cheap head bolts so i just got a toyota set and they worked just fine!!! :) i would actually love to get it dyno'd just to see how much there is and what else i have to do to get some more ponies! an the moment im running on 13.5 bar the old pistons i took out were totally different to them ones... there was only about 3 millimeter of a dome in them...and the new wossners came with the sides teflon coated and were seriously light!! there was about six piston rings on each!! that included the oil ring...
i want new cams and if it blowes the head il just get a stud kit.... that shud hold it!!! :p the 3sgte head gasket is the same and how much compessions in that when the turbo spools up??? :?

Re: my fourth gen, 1990, 2ltr gt

You should be using the GTE gasket and ARP studs already or it's going to
    keep doing it

As carbon builds on the pistons and the rings seat the C/R will rise slowly and the
only real answer is to O-ring the block

Re: my fourth gen, 1990, 2ltr gt

ya the gte gasket and the 3sge are identical... i had a lot of trouble in the past with head bolts on my celica i tried the first time reusing them but i just ended up blowing the headgasket again iv got a collection of about 4 in my shed all screwed up...ya i can see that slowly haping already in the block... what exactly do you mean by getting it o-ringed...i dont think this headgasket thats in it is goin to last that long either so if it goes again im just going to put normal headgasket with an apr stud kit that should do the trick hopefully!!! ;) i was going to buy the cams when i was doing my engine first but i didnt because i wanted to break in the motor first so there wouldnt be as much stress as it would have running it in with extra camshafts.... 8)

cometic or trd gasket, and arp studs torqued to 80 ft/lbs. probelm solved. no need to o-ring the block.

That's $500 worth of bolts and gasket to me!, my car cost $350 :D

Those gaskets come in different thicknesses? maybe a good idea to go thicker?

With compression around 13:1 and looks like it's been bored as well, I'm not
    surprised it's not holding up

the block/head wasn't prepped right or the crappy toyota bolts failed.

Re: my fourth gen, 1990, 2ltr gt

ok so today i stripped the head off only to find that the valves were all ok and the very loud banging from the top of the engine was actually the head gasket... screwed...AGAIN!!! iv got a little collection of blown headgaskets now just hanging up in my shed so its kinda getting annoying now that i cant just sit in and drive!!! but anyway!! im going to order a new timing belt , pump, tensioner, gasket and headbolts monday...im just so god dam sick of changing it!!!

ok...here was my plan with the seats... i was planning to get the alltrac ones with the lumber support and try and order a good second hand one in from a country with left hand drive so i can have two in the front!!! i think this would be pretty nifty if ya ask me!! so both the seats could be adjusted! has anybody else dont that with there cars maybe?? can it be done... i think i could make it work! :D mine are knackered as you'll see!![IMG]
steering isnt too bad but is a bit worn on the outside and discoloured
    [IMG]
this is what i play my TUNEZZZZ wityh its a full jbl system with a 800watt amp and a mac audio sub! did all the trimming and covering and made the box and parcel shelf myself!! arent i good! :p but all the old live sound speakers have ben replaced with jbl...sounds so sweet...looking to buy an alpine stero next... i have a good sony but i think alpines are much better [IMG]
this is just a bit of rust i need to sort but its no biggy as of yet i am a fairly good welder so i should have no prob!

what happens when you use paper.
prep and sand the block , get the head skimmed, get arp studs, get a metal HG.

ok...l right... is there any chance at all that my block could be warped??? and what are the advantages of using a steel gasket???

    hi mate,

Just catching up on the thread. been away for a bit.
    Cool car,

    My observations.

to make the most of that short block and cam set up you need to ditch the ecu, a lot of good reports from the Omex series.
http://www.omextechnology.co.uk/Ecus/ecus.htm in the uk, popular with tuners and lots of the NA ford guys use them on twink setups such as zetecs etc. cheaper than some of the other ECUs, megasquirt is the cheapest, but not sure of the aftermarket support for the engine. Link is also good value.
If you go arp route, follow the tightening instructions to the letter, otherwise you can get head lift. Not sure on the 3sge engine, but the the 3sgte, you can use a steel hg from the later ST205, cheaper than TRD and just as good imo.

Def you need to look at the injectors and exhaust as well, maybe some 165 ones would fit? mafix are they the same the fuel rails. If they are, I have a set I will post you, free. they should be good for upto 250bhp.

Re the seats the floor rails for the ST165 and ST162 are different widths, you can make it fit, but you need to weld to be able to swap and re mount the seat rails. They just dont bolt on sadly.
BTW the seats with the motors weight a ton, so two of em would be like an extra 12 - 14kgs.

What mods have you got to the suspension, you mention blowing gearboxs, have you thought about using one from a much later ST202, tougher box, and the St202 clutch is good for 220bhp ish.

You can pick up crashed ST202s cheap enough to strip the good bits from, just steer away from the super strut set up.

Re: my fourth gen, 1990, 2ltr gt

    thanks for the reply!!

car is sweet but i was hoping to get a full respray!! ya i was hoping to get a good ecu... but i can get ALOT!!! of parts cheap imported from poland and i mean for a third of the price!! if not a quater.. so which ecu would u recommend that i get?? im looking to get over 200bhp+ if i can becuse i only ever seen two other celicas like mine and there were both scraped!! and i think it would show some of the other ten ton celica's a bit of a run!! i have a fairly decent mechanic , i usually do all the work myself but seeing as i sent the engine away i dont like to take too many chances becuase it can be all money down the drain!!! so i get him to torque it! but for the last gasket i think it just couldnt take the pressure and decided to die!!! :p in my own opinion i think that the 3sge and gte are the same gasket because when i went into the motor factors to get mine it was listed as the same... so i think i can and the last steel gasket i used was a 3sgte and it fitted perfect but the bolts just gave up on me.. sickened!!! have you got any good sites were i can find out more on which ecu to go with...

are you serious??? would you mind about the inectors? :D that would be soooo sweet!! ill give you something for them dont worry but it mightent be alot... :( i was looking for a good header but there so god dam hard to find!!! but i will continue looking!

yes...the seats! i know they might weigh that little but more but they would be soo much more comfortable!! i have a decent mig welder and i did alot of weding when i was younger and in school, i used to make peices of art from scrap metal!!! if you want i can make you anything in return from the injectors??? :p check the link!! i made a 7 foot tall giant all out of car parts and i do some crazy animals!!! if you want to see some more let me know!!

    http://www.rte.ie/radio/mooneygoeswild/fp2007/seankeane.html

at the moment my chassis is a total disaster so i was thinking about going with these bushes down on the bottom...
from fensport...and i dont know about the shocks yet...im thinking about putting in kyb adjustables but im not quite sure... iv had so much trouble with scrubbing and i just want a good quite car that doesnt scrub... but i want too lower it but then again im afraid of scrubbing in corners!! i have a new set of 17's to put onto it but i want to get them powdercoated white first.. is the st202 box a direct fit or is there more modifying to do?? i can pick up a box no problem!!! you see its very hard to get a good gearbox becuase every gearbox is 20yrs old!!! and probly left out in the rain with no drives!!! i had to clean the old gearbox out with crappy oil first before i put in the good stuff w85/90 ... thanks for the post
