Don't you have to spray the base coat, then sand, spray metallic, sand again just right to get the metallic effect?

I want to be able to cut&polish, buff, etc. too, and like I said, I love gloss :cheers

Hiring a paint booth will be the way to go, I was originally going to pull off the removable panels one by one and paint roll them with 1:1 rustoleum/some other paint under my house :byodood
It worked alright for a few people, but I'm looking to get a reasonably good quality finish that will last forever, or at least until I want to respray.

I'm leaning more towards black with accents than orange with black accents, it just appeals more to me :)

I know it will be harder to keep clean, but that's all part of the fun :D

Ha! God, I know what you mean. Hot pink would look stupid :p

Just replaced my battery voltage gauge with one that gives me a bit more information

It is a lot more visible in real life, and it looks cool too!

What other functions does it have?

Paint is tricky - metallics are not for the beginner and a run will spoil everything.
Get a pro with a booth to do it - expensive but worth it
Often they will spray a silver base coat to improve the metallic effect

Im at Brisbane airport next Tuesday 7am (landing with Virgin), pm me your info and maybe I can steal a car or something

Just reading my battery voltage :p

It was a whopping $2, I gutted my spare battery voltage gauge and cut a hole in the black plastic stuff to mount it. Coincidentally, the screw holes in the meter match the screw holes for holding the front half of the gauge almost perfectly.

I'm looking to do a glossy finish instead of metallic, should be cheaper and look sweet IMO
Getting it professionally done I've decided, I want a car that I can be really proud of.

I got my keyless entry kit in the mail today! :D
Spent about half an hour working out the Lock/Unlock and indicator wiring, got the lock/unlock connected but it got dark before I could get the indicators connected.
I'll make a short video tomorrow of my new laziness enabler

Forgot about the video of the keyless entry today, but my internet is slowed so it would take about 7 years to upload anyway.

So guys, my car is going to be out of action for a little while :cry
I took my missus and a couple of friends fishing today and got bogged in some slush, sump sitting on the ground deep. About 3 city-dwellers with no idea about towing cars drove past in their big 4x4s, then a nice bloke with a clue came and helped us out. I had it in reverse trying to get out of the slush, but once we were out it wouldn't shift back out.
I ended up having to pay $100 to get the car towed back home.

Not quite sure what's wrong yet, hopefully nothing too major. Might be time for a new engine and a gearbox rebuild! I've been seeing a few cheap GE/GTEs on Japanese Yahoo and shipping looks to be only about $200?

Anyway it's a terrible time to not have a car, looking for a job and all. I'll be giving the gearbox a looking at tomorrow.

most likely just the selector cables. i had 1 of the retainer clips jump off one of the cables and consequently locked it into gear

-yep, just check the linkage. if it where just the clutch you'd still be able to take it out of gear.

    cables for sure....

I checked the linkages as soon as the gear stick wouldn't move out of reverse, they're all connected and moving properly. The bloke that helped us out even tried knocking the selectors ( arms the cables connect to? ) out of gear.

    Update time!

I did a bit of work fixing rust and other small stuff today before it got dark. I really wish I had a concreted garage!

So I was thinking since I'm not going to be driving for a little while while I fix the gearbox, I might as well fix everything! Rebuild CVs, gearbox, engine and steering rack, new clutch master, clean out and organise engine bay, PCV oil catch can, new PS pump, etc..

    Pictures!

Looks like some sort of damage?

Painty! The white-green stuff is 3M Rust converter and primer.

Here's where I'm at with the gearbox, I've disconnected the cables and undone the adjuster bolt and the levers still won't move :byodood

I'll be collecting all the gaskets, o-rings, bearings and seals etc. to rebuild everything over the next couple of weeks, hoping to have a perfectly running and handling celi after all this! :D

Not much room but hey what's a man to do.

Your property looks a tad 'rural-ish', what suburb are you in ?. Any wonder your not near the Valley :lol

I would get those old garage door hinges off there, I can see you getting something snagged on em. I would then hook up a decent tarp (10x12 foot) to the top of that garage and put some extendable annex poles with ropes on the end, It will also help with the weather. I would also contemplate a couple of trailer loads of road base for the garage and compact it. Extend it 6-10 feet past the garage entrance.

If you don't own the property have a chat to the owner and he may even come to the party, who knows.

I was wondering when you were going to do the sig thing :mrgreen
