ditch the color on the spoiler.....and the washer novels....... if you didnt do a bright green that would look good....maybe darken up the green a bit. and alot smaller letters.

Thanx for the wheel shot, It f'kn amazes me how people mistreat rims and tyres, how hard is it to NOT hit gutters :scratch

Anyways, after some work those rims should clean up a treat. I like cars painted in dark green (metallic) or dark green pearl (metallic), then powder coat the rims black

I have nowhere near enough money to get pearl or metallic paint, I'll be doing all the work myself.
Might save up for powder coat though, it seems a good idea!

I have no idea how people manage to scrape up rims as bad as these ones, I bet it was a filthy P plater :p

    Here's some more mockups:

It's hard to get the green darker, it always turns out neon-y

Inspired by the General Lee :p

    Yeah, I think so too.

A darker shade though, I couldn't get the perfect colour in Photoshop.

    So I had an idea.

I am on my red P plates right now and have around 3 years before I get my Open license and can drive a turbo'd car.

I want to build a boost pig torque monster 3S-GTE that I can just drop into my Celi when I'm ready, while upgrading/replacing the suspension, brakes etc. with new parts at the same time so that I have a monster show car when I get my Open license.

I know, dream big, but I can do most of the mechanical work myself and 3 years is plenty enough time to slowly buy up all the parts.

Now I don't know much about what generations of the 3S have the best parts, but I can find that out fairly easily.

I don't care too much about kW/HP, I want torque!

So with that in mind, who knows which 3S block/head/pistons/cams combination would yield the most sit-the-fuck-back?

I'll make a list of parts and such that I will need once I acquire some more learnings.

edit - bugger, we were still talking about colour schemes when I started typing this :(

Just my opinion, but I don't reckon the design of these cars lends itself to loud colours. Cars that look a bit plain or generic to start with need a bit of help to get noticed and an in-your-face paint scheme can look good on them, but our cars don't really look like anything else on the road, and there is a lot of subtle detail in the shape and that's what I think makes them such a good looker. For my mind, you want people to see the car, not just the paint.

But anyway, all that said, if you are going to paint it green then I would have to recommend something along the lines of Dick Johnson's old "Greens-Tuf" colour scheme from back in the early 1980's - a nice solid mid-green with all of your bump strips spoilers mirrors etc colour-coded, and either white or gold wheels. Here's the Mustang, and here's the XD Falcon

    Cheers
    Matt

edit #2 - start with a 5S block and crank for more torque

5S-GTE sounds good, shouldn't burn up much extra fuel either

Kirius' 5S-GZE is a great example of a 5S build

We're still talking about colour scemes, I haven't chosen one yet.

I get what you mean about our cars not lending themselves to loud colours, black and white seem to be the most powerful colours for 4th gens.

That green looks more like what I was going for with the accents in the first few mockups.

I might play around with black and white in Photoshop and see how it looks.

I'm not really into painting whole panels different colours, but I'll give it a go!

General lee? Reminds me more of a Lamborghini paint scheme :) Which, I think would actually fit this car well

Interesting point Matt, regarding the issue about loud colours on the shape of our Celicas.

Thanks Steve, and hey, happy 1000 posts to you!

I'll level with you, I don't hate the Lambo orange :lol

Seriously though, I've seen these cars painted smurf blue, lime green, pinks, purples, all sorts of wild mica's and metallics, flames graphics and skunk stripes, all trying to be different, and they almost always look like crap. IMO, of course. Simple colours work best because they don't spoil or detract from the lines of the car. IMO.

Did I say IMO yet? lol..

I think the lambo orange looks pretty good, but it's so hard to make a choice!

The colour that I choose will be what I will be driving around in for the next few years at least, it has to look good and be show-worthy!

I'd love to paint it black with accents, it looks great but it seems very common.

I think you have forgotten the part where I'm painting it myself, have you any idea how hard it is to get DIY metalic look good? :byodood

I'm going for "GLOSSYASFUCK" anyway :mrgreen

I did'nt forget and yes, you can do it.

My brother is a panel beater and spray painter but contaminants are always an issue.

Get the paint mixed, use some decent/clean gear and hire a paint booth for the day, the biggest killer for paint jobs is contaminants floating in the air whether it be skin flakes or clothing fibre etc...

The moral of the story is............... you only get ONE chance with a paint job so it's worth the extra $$.

If you really want a bright color IMO orange is your best bet. No light green and pink or metallic sky blue :( Lol I saw a hot pink metallic Celica at the yards and it just reminded me of a barbie power wheels for 5 year olds :(
