How to do the GTE swap without dealing with sensors and spare parts... >_< GAH, I kinda want a second turbo car!

I would pick the GTE, but under a 2K budget don't think it will work. GE sounds more viable since it has more of what you need like a tranny which the GTE doesn't.
For the 3S-GTE I think we're looking at:

    $950 Engine
    $320 Engine Shipping
    $450 Tranny
    $320 Tranny Shipping
    $2040 Total est.

That's not including labor. Or maybe you could source the parts closer to you and you can pick them up and use some of that money for the labor lol. Expensive. I want a turbo too :(

lol actually, all the prices include shipping. :D
The thing I'm most worried about though are the myriads of sensors that most 3SGTE write ups warn about, not to mention the "complicated wiring."
Would I be able to find all of those "misc" components and be able to install them into my car for less than $2K?

I am assuming that with a gen1 to gen 3 GE swap, I won't have to worry about either of those problems...

If i were you id join mr2oc.com lots more info on swaps.

-any motor you choose will have to be wired to work in you car, even n/a.
-part availability should be what drives your choice (imo). iirc some of those motors never came to the u.s. in any car, so no u.s. distributors of parts. if something broke you could be down for months waiting to find a part.
-5sfe would be easiest, and has us parts. but its not a performance motor at all. reallly its just your super common yota 4 banger.

Thanks! :D I'll be sure to check those forums out.

    @eNtraxGT88:

What is this black padding you speak of? Wrong thread? LOL

In the meantime, I found this and was wondering if it meant that it had all the sensors that I would need for a GTE swap:

    4thgenceli, where are you? lol

i would guess that its the remains of a part out. probably no sensors as those seem to go first.

Currently debating on whether to fork over $1150 (shipping included) for a JDM gen3 3SGE+tranny "with less than 40k miles", or to fork over $1674 (shipping included) for a JDM 6th gen Celica/Curren with said motor and "60k miles", take everything I need, and part out the rest...

In the meantime, I still haven't been able to log onto mr2oc... -_- Apparently I have not been "approved" yet even though I tried signing up almost a year ago...

I'd take the 6th gen and part out everything you don't need. There might be bits that you need that don't come with just the engine+tranny.

Thanks for the input. I probably will go with that. haha

Now the next step is figuring out whether I should get the ST206 Curren or the ST202 Celica.
The Curren is $50 cheaper, and because it was never sold in the U.S. I probably could sell the front end conversion for a decent amount of money. The only question is how big of a demand there is for a JDM front end conversion with 6th gen Celica's here... (Or if I could even sell it or not)
I think it's time for me to join 6gc as well and see what they have to say. :p haha

In the meantime, here are pics of the cars I'm looking at getting. Both have about 100,000km.

Gosh darn it, every time I try to get a new engine, either I get ripped off, the sale expires, the engine sells, or shipping ends up being ridiculously expensive... -_-
Still trying to find the engine for me...

In the meantime, I got myself a set of Ground Control Coilovers. ^_^
Will most likely mate it with a set of Koni Yellows when the price is right.

Can't wait to put these on in the meantime. :D

Sadly, I'll probably be getting rid of this ST162 pretty soon... Found a good deal on another car, so I will be upgrading to something more interesting. ;)
Anyone interested in saving it from the junkyard? :'(
