    Lol Internet Memes FTW.
Strangely enough, I actually don't have one.

Meh, not really interested in getting tint anytime soon. I like my windows the way they are right now. And besides, it's one less excuse a cop could pull on me should anything ever happen.

Re: (To be) Hellaflush Celica. Failing smog made me think...

My car keeps failing smog... :(

So I though long and hard... and thought of something somewhat outrageous...

    I... want a hybrid. :ugh

A Celica Hybrid that is!!!
Hybrids and electric cars are smog exempt! :)

    The ideal plan:

-Eventually swap 3sgte in the front.
-Mount electric DC motor in the rear.

    OR

-3sgte in the rear using SW20 parts (i.e. MR tranny and rear clip for motor mounts)
-electric DC motor in the front

Not sure which one of those would be less complicated.
Now the main thing is figuring out where I should mount the electric motor(s), how I should connect it/them to the rear wheels should I go with the first plan, and most importantly, where I should place the batteries...

The goal is to be able to manually control the electric motor for local, city driving, and the engine for long driving... That, and the ability to do donuts. :driving lol. I'm thinking of this as a long term goal kinda like James and his 1UZFE swap goal, but we'll see...

    Ideas? Suggestions? Outrages?

just go to a great smog place with good reviews an ask why your car isn't passing.

Re: (To be) Hellaflush Celica. Failing smog made me think...

Yes it is a long term goal lol. Very expensive. Do the GTE swap first as it's much more cost effective as you already know. You've also got a myriad of builds to follow and copy, so familiarity with the GTE is very good. Lol not only will the 1UZ swap will be expensive AND difficult( :cry ), but I also want that engine in the rear! With selectable 4WD!!! And that's heaps of money without doing it yourself! :ack2

I'm no engineer, YET, but I see issues with cutting up the rear floor, and welding it, and welding new bars in the rear, engine mounts and rigidity, measurements, balance, custom fabrication 100% lol. But one can dream. :roll

Re: (To be) Hellaflush Celica. Failing smog made me think...

Have yet to find a place that would give me a straight answer... -_-

If I knew what the problem was, I would've done that already... -_-

    Dreaming FTW. :cool
I think my plan is similar to yours in that I'll technically have 4WD (independently controlled 4WD, but 4WD none the less.) and some type of motor mounted in the rear. :p
One of the best perks with my plan though is that I'll never have to smog my car again!!! :reddevil
One of the main reasons why I thought about this idea though was because there have been plenty of EV conversions and 3SGTE swaps, but no one has ever combined the two before. :driving So I guess in a way, our goals are kinda like opposites. Mine's based on a combination of something plenty of people have done, whereas James is based on something never done before.

I was thinking that if I were to go with a GTE in the rear and the electric motor in the front, that I would take a rear clip off a SW20 and do something like this with it:
    http://buildthreads.wordpress.com/2009/ ... a-integra/

What do you guys think would be the hardest part of implementing that?

Just slap an electric motor onto the rear diff, grab some batteries and a few other bits and pieces and away you go!
You could even rig up the engine to start automatically at a certain RPM.

Shit it sounds like a fun project, I'mma get me a rear diff and do it myself :mrgreen

I've seen that build before. :D The 1UZ swap has been in a 4th gen once, but I don't know if it has been completed. Stig knows the guy that is currently in the process. But I've never seen a mid engine Celica. :cool

I think the hardest part is implementing the EV and wiring it. Sounds like a good idea though! 4th gen celica! Hybrid! You be able to buy the motor from the company that sells Prius motors. That's where Toyota get's their motors from. Or a cheaper road is doing alot of research lol.

Re: (To be) Hellaflush Celica. Failing smog made me think...

Thinking about it generally like that, it sounds so easy, but I don't know how much harder it could become to actually go through such a process... Which is where I'm at right now.

    Linky please! :p
On the contrary, from what I've heard with EV swaps in general, the hardest part is just creating an adapter plate to fit the electric motor with the tranny. (since it has to be custom made at a machine shop). Although I'm not sure if I'll even have to go through that process since I was thinking of having the electric motor as a standalone system or something of the sort. Also, most people that do conversions usually just buy electric motors and batteries on random websites or salvage them from forklifts. The forklift salvaging idea is pretty tempting so far since there are a few EV conversions using this method that ended up costing less than 2 grand including the car. :byodood

Anyways it'll be a while before I try doing any of that stuff. My car finally passed smog so I'm gonna set out to do what I originally planned on doing first! :mrgreen
Now to decide between getting (eBay) coilover sleeves temporarily, saving up for ST182 coilovers and custom fitting those, or saving some more and getting those custom made coilovers from Australia.

    Eh... don't really know...
Let's just say I forked over a little extra moolah, and go from there... :cop

    Currently searching for coilovers.
Tempted to get the ST182 Megan Streets at the moment...

Are there any other car suspensions that could possibly fit our Celica's? i.e. Corolla coilovers, or MR2 coilovers...

My 22 year old steering wheel was starting to make my hands feel sticky and smell funky, so I got a new wheel. :p

Still gotta fix the horn and figure out how to black out the red stitching and red spot on top. (and by fix, I mean get rid of that tacky logo. :p) Red areas seem a bit out of place IMO...
