Problems? did you fix the crack?

Yes the ideal is to keep the gen1 ECU, wiring etc

Bluestreak was able to fit the gen2 motor using the existing wiring harness but using ACIS (vacuum controlled)
PM him for details as his thread got wiped
It was easy exept he had to make some changes to the throttle body to get the pipes joined up

I've looked at the problem over the years and I believe it can be done, what I do know is that :
the gen2/gen1 inlet manifolds have the same bolt pattern, so that makes it fairly easy
The gen1 gasket on the gen2 head shows the amount of material to remove, it's a lot but you don't have to go very far back, only enough to allow the flaps to open.

Basically the gen1 turbo and gen2 turbo heads are the outside (gasket) shape with the same inner dimensions

I'd like to see some close-ups of those cut cams, I still have a set of stock cams here

Hi Kevin the cyl-head crack is sorted still struggling with the miss removed head again now it's at my brother's engineering
he found the problem as well told me the valve's where not sealing due to the wrong shim spec's to loose. So today I phoned
CAM TEC the guy's that did cam's for me and asked them for the spec's they are different they now will have to be 15/18 inlet
and 20/23 ex so hopefully that get's sorted now the reason I wanted to find out if gen 1 and gen2 would work maybe gen2 as a better gas flow head and bigger port's thing would be better at idle. Will get picture's when I get it back thank for the info and keep those cam's never know.

The gen2 and gen1 GTE flow rate is pretty much the same
With the gen2 head you can run more lift safely due to the bigger buckets, the cam lobes are wider to get more accurate valve timing.

I thought you might have damaged the valves, I have spare gen1 & 2 valves & springs etc here, tons of shims
Do yourself a favour next time, shim the had on a bench, spin the cams and check them again. Do it a few times to get the
clearances right as I'm sure you'll find them moving around

I have a spare set of stock cams also and some mint covers

Did you find a P/S bottle?

Just a small update changed the rim colour to silver I think it looks better than the black one's.
I will have to wait for my new wheels when there is some bucks.Due to cyl-head repairs and mods
my brother as now sorted the problem out.Car actually idle's perfect just a little high at the 900rpm mark
It's nice to have a car again was starting to miss it a lot 2012-09-30 10.50.04.jpg

I'm liking the rims a lot more. The p/s bottle I must have thrown out but I'll find you a clear one from a ST182 or 202

Just was wondering if my gearbox is not a LSD type wanted to mention the other day but left it alone when I did a good burn out there was smoke coming from both wheel and two black stripes on floor today raining testing it for grip man did it grip yes it did pulled away nicely in first snap it to second and there it goes last all gear's broken side-shaft going to take it off and take photo's
of it I just hope I can get it fixed today again.

Sorry about the hail, happened to me in 85 in Pretoria one day and they would go straight thru a Golf 1 rear windscreen.

I have a spare set of squirters
If you weld the turbo you betta have a good a/m blowoff or the vanes get damaged
Yes the gen1 intake is the one to use besides looking nicer as well

Ja it's all fine planing on doing respray with a change in color in anyway the windscreen is my worry I remember that hail in 85 I was involved on that one as well. kevin thanks for info and those squirters do you want to sell them or will you spare me one only the flywheel I want to make it lighter this time what kg's should it be?got my self 540cc injectors top feed will it work?the fuel rail is missing can i use the gen1 one and water, oil pump missing will they fit on as well

  16. Stig

    Stig ST162 Guru Donated!

Ja, you can have one squirter - It's Xmas!
Fuel rail won't fit - gen2 GTE uses side feed injectors like on Nissan DET, Subaru etc
540cc sounds like EVO injectors? Should work well
I have original injectors and rail for Gen2 GTE, can't get 300cc side feeds for mine (n/a) so I may have to mod to top feed.
    Oil pump is the same
Gen1/2 GTE flywheel is heavy - I suggest use the gen1 crank and a Camry flywheel, mod the starter holes and fit Camry starter

Thank-you but I did not mean it that way for free but do except the gift thou I am glad it's Christmas maybe I will try and see what else to score lol. Some how I will be making it up to you.
Kevin that starter story still as me puzzled now I am starting to understand will have to use camry starter.
These 540cc are from toyota if not mistaken they come off a st215 will take picture's for the fuel rail I saw will have to mod but just look's like the BMW rail might work will keep you informed on that.
The crank as been done up already and fitted will have to stick to the stock stuff and see what weight to use on flywheel.

Looks like there was a year 88/89? where all JDM ST162's had a harness including the TEMS plugs.
If you check my thread you'll see my previous white auto was exactly like yours
