    the rust hunt continued.
I wanted to take a look and see what was going on under the side skirts and
guess what, I found alot of rust. There was also rust surrounding the rear window washer noosle.
I promised myself that I would not fit the new rims until that rust would be gone.

I also changed the spark plugs and when I took the old ones out this is what it looked like
    [IMG]

Then me and my brother decided to go all the way and see what the engine looked like on the inside.

It's a real shame to see rust on it as the whole car looks awesome with the polishing you've done on it. Still you've got the right facilites to work with and all that space.

Just keep an eye on your neice, she looks so cute indeed

Yeah it was kinda frustrating to find all that rust after all the polishing but I suspected it would be some rust there so I was prepared for it
plus the work space is pretty awesome and my brother is a master welder.

thanks. you´ll get more pics really soon ;)

We took the engine apart and I think that was a good idea cause the engine was full of soot and dirt.
some of the valves were almost stuck cause of the soot, so we took it apart, cleaned it and changed all seals and gaskets.

    I´ll let the pictures talk.

this car had literally no maintenance what so ever from previus owners.

new timing belt, tensioners and waterpump.
    cleans up pretty well
    [IMG]

The 5th gear did not hold when I was drivin the car so we opened the gearbox, changed the 5th gear and all the bearings in the gearbox
    [IMG]
we also changed the wheel bearings
    [IMG]

when we were finishing up we noticed that one of the wires for the engine computer had fallen out of the electric plug and there was no way to see were it was supposed to be
    [IMG]

then it was good to work at the right place.
I had one of the mecanics at the work shop to go over the wireing diagram to make sure everything was allright.
I also put new rubber hoses ofer the inner steering links.

The airfilter was just hanging loose so we made a bracket to fasten it down
    [IMG]

Ready and the engine started up in first try :D
    [IMG]

at this time the only thing that was left was the damn rust so we couldn´t put that of any longer.
I will load the rest of the pictures later this week or this wekend.

It didn´t take that long, It was about a week from the time the engine was out until it was back in. we mostly worked in it at nights and I had to wait 2 days for the parts for the gearbox, I didn´t order the parts for the gearbox until we had opened it to see what needed to be replaced.

Nice thanks alot. It´s good to know about that cause it´s realy hard to find used parts for those cars here in Iceland.
do you have alot of parts for st162, other than engines?

I looked it over and you got alot nice stuff there.
but what I´m looking for is the moulding below the windshield. I wanted to order a new one but Toyota has stop manufacturing this item
and I looked for this on the internet and I found one store in USA that have this item in stock but they only ship to USA so I´m still searching for this.
as you see it looks bad and has gone worse since this picture was taken.

shipping is killing...If you get it packed without a chance of breaking it, 0-2kg 19,30 Euro and 2-5 kg 26,30 euro. Biggest issue would be how to protect it during transport... Or do you visit the netherlands every now and then? lol

You appear to have as much rust as I did with my 165. Looks the part now shes cleaned up though well done, really like the picture in the snow!

I bought one of those windscreen scuttle panel ( that's the proper name ;)) for mine from Toyota, but that was a few years ago. It wasn't cheap......£160.

No I´ve never been to the netherlands :D. and yes it could be a problem to ship this without damage. I´m trying to find this here, there was alot of thease cars here once so there must be someone who has it here in Iceland, and I´m also thinking of having it specialy made here. but if everything fails I would be glad to pay the shipping fee, just need this part.

Thanks, I´ll take more photos next winter and post here.

If I find someone who´s selling it new and is willing to ship it to Iceland I dont care if it costs alot. I just dont like looking at my rusted panel.
and thanks for giving me the propper name fo it, I´m gonna try to search for it :D
(I used the name from the Toyota parts system. partnumber 75535-20160 descriptoin MOULDING,WINDSHIELD,LOWER)

    Good job
It's a sad fact that most of the motors on this forum have never been opened, testament to the Toyota build quality!
and yes, that is typical of the condition we find them in

I see your motor also uses the GTE head, I wonder if it replaced the GE head in the later cars?
    Did you swap rings?
    Did you swap valve seals?

I had the 5th gear problem and it also affected my 3rd gear as well.
The problem was caused by a loose 5th gear bearing which also ate up the syncro and selector rings.
Did you swap any of the syncro's, selectors?
Where all the bearingss still in stock? price?

Got any pics of the outer CV replacement? ie - How did you get them off/on?

Got more pics of the wheel bearing swap?

Are your rear brakes working? In the pics it appears not, I think I have the same problem caused by a faulty brake bias valve
