It´s very usefull working for Toyota. I get great discount and I get unlimited access to the workshop and all the tools so I can´t complain the gen. 7 celica was an awesome car, fun to drive and great handling, but there are alot of those cars around so it´s not that special seeing one on the streets. but I can defenetly see my self buying another one sometime in the future.(but I would not sell the gen. 4 to buy one) the gen 4 celica is mutch more special to me and has alot more caracter. and you can feel that this car was made when Toyota were trying very hard to make good cars rather then making many cars and make alot of money. You don´t feel like you are driving a 25 years old car. I´d rather have the gen. 4 than gen. 7 for a keeper.
Agree with you there. There are a lot of 7s around and yes you're right, they don't feel as special as the 4 we're driving. Definitely has a lot more character.
Let´s post some more pictures. I got bored of dealing with rust so I decided to put that on hold for a while and do something else. The lights weren´t giving alot of light so I replaced the headlights and I also put 6000K HID kit in it. The previus owner had some red neon lights in the grille that looked really bad so i took it out. I have some good friends that were eager to help me with the car. And i also painted the heat cover for the exhaust manifold. That´s mutch better It was looking a little better after I´d waxed it a couple of times more
thanks guys. thanks man Yeah we get sunny weather here. Those pictures are taken some time ago. I´m just going through the pictures in my computer, uploading and posting them here, so those last pictures I posted were taken during winter. In june and july the sun almost never sets, we actually get 24 hour daylight but in mid winter we get about 5-6 hour of daylight and alot of snow, so the weather here is pretty extreme the car had those skirts when I bought it, I did some checking and nobody seems to know where they came from. someone thought it might be an aftermarket skirts for an old GTI corolla that had been modified to fit this car. I think thats possible. I have alot more pictures comin soon so stay tuned
You are right those skirt's do come off a old corolla or conquest OEM on the sport's model's but they are shorter thou and had to be modified to fit your car
24 hours daylight ? How many months of the year do you get that ? It means you don't get a chance to use the pop up headlights that much
It´s just 2 months of the year june and july. but by Icelandic law you always have to turn the lights on when you are drivin, day or night so I get to show off my awesome pop up lights alot but I want to put lights in the front bumper too so I don´t always have to use the headlights.
Oh I see. Wonder why they require lights on 24/7 ? Good idea about putting lights in the bumper, just to save on the headlight bulbs.
Well, got more photos and let´s keep on posting. the previus owner (who btw did not deserve to have this beauty) was painting the roof of his house and didn´t bother to move the car and it was all covered in red paint spots. So I took it and spent many hours cleaning the paint and had to polish it alot more. after few hours of polishing and two pictures I took the day after So this is all I did right away after I got it, it really needed to be done. I have done alot more since then. I´m working on uploading the pictures and I will post it when it´s done
What did you use to try and remove the paint spots ? Did you use a machine to polish or hand ? You've done an fantastic job with the existing paintwork, well done ! It just shows what can be achieved with a huge amount of effort and most important.....CELICA PASSION......makes all the difference.
Thanks. I´ve got alot of the Celica passion (that´s what keeps me going through this mission) I tried all kinds of car paint cleaners and even clay but I ended up using cellulose thinner, cause it was house paint it came right of (no rubbing needed) without damaging the paint of the car. just put the thinner in a cloth and gently stoked it of. The paint got a little bit matte afterwards so I machine polished the hell out of it. I also polished by hand in the curves where the machine didn´t reach. It was ALOT of work but well worth it.
I wanted to give myself a reward for a job well done and bought a 17" inch wheels. but as you have noticed, this was during winter and I had to wait a couple of months before I could fit them under the car. more pictures coming this weekend
I have no experience with machine polish, but I know you have to be careful so as not to go through to the metal. Those wheels look awesome !!!
koming right up thanks. I have some experience with polishing machines. I used a wet polish, the trick is to use a little water with it so it won´t get to hot an ruin the paintjob. works pretty well.
