Will the ST185 front brakes fit on an ST162?

    Hi!

Does anyone have some experience in this question?
I intend to do something with my brakes, and since the ST185 front rotor and caliper are bigger, it seems to be a good choice.

So the question is, will it fit directly to an ST162 without any modifications?

    Thanks!

Yea, I wasn't here for a while, but now I will mess around again :)
The car also gained some nice modifications recently, I will post some pictures.

Yes, but the 14" stock OEM rims will not fit anymore - you will need a minimum 15" rim.

    That won't be a problem, I already have 15's.
    Thanks anyways! :)

    Edit:
Nice collection of T16s you have there!

Thanks, but they are talking there about ST165s. Or are the ST162 and ST165 hubs the same (I mean the part that holds the caliper)?

162 and 165 share very similar brake setups.

Okay, that's enough for me. Going to buy a set of ST185 brakes :)

    Okay, another question.
Can anyone confirm my tought, that the ST185 and ST162 brake line "plugs" are the same?
(I don't know exact word, the parts on the two ends of the brake lines that joins to the caliper on one side and to the solid tube on the other)

So, if I buy this item on ebay, will it work with the ST185 calipers: 300321710783, or I have to buy an ST185 set.

i think you can modify st202?? big difference in those... but you will defo need bigger rims! :D

All these calipers use a banjo bolt connection on the caliper
Just keep the 162 brake hoses and bolt them to the new calipers, the inner ferrule connection
(metal pipe) is the same as well.

The problem is where the hose connects to the shocks on the other models, also
the hose lengths are sometimes different

I used 202 brakes because they are big, cheap and easily available here,
depends on your buget and availability?

Although ST162 & ST165 & ST185 calipers are interchangeable and there are articles on swapping ST165 & ST185 calipers the problem I recall hearing from 4th gen halftrack owners that have done the switch (ie ST162 - ST185 caliper swap) is that they don't have the brake pedal response they used to have.

So you may find that the ST162 master cylinder is a bit small for activating the ST185 front calipers. As you can see from the above pic the ST165 master cylinder is different from the ST162 so you may want to upgrade your ST162 master cylinder to an ST165 or ST185 master cylinder.

That 165 conversion pictured is a joke - The caliper and pads only cover 1/2 the disk?

On LHD models it is easy to fit the V6 Camry etc Master cyl if needed

That would be good too, but there are more ST185 guys here who are tuning their engines over 300HP, and changing their brakes to ST205, so the ST185 brakes are more available.

Thanks, then I should order the ST162 Goodridge kit.

Arrrgh... I asked directly this question on Celicatech, but the guys there said that the ST162 and ST185 master cylinders are the same size and I don't have to change. :/

I heard that too, maybe they just look similar?

GT4 parts are impossible to find here, which is why I'm looking at heavier cars.

No way are the 165 and 185 master cylinders the same! the 185 one is bigger, has a bigger reservoir and imo is a good upgrade, I had poor pedal response from my 185 brakes with the 165 mc, swap to 185 mc and its fine. The worst part of the braking system then is the ABS, get rid of that, fit a proportioning valve and you will have great budget brakes. unless you go aftermarket calipers such as AP or Tar ox, they are a good bolt on fast road solution

I don't have ABS and didn't want it either.
Does the ABS part of the ST185 brakes cause me any trouble? Or just plug'n'play? :)

P.S. Thanks for all the information and help guys, you are really helping me out!
