Evening all, a couple of you may recognize me. Though seen as im the owner of a gen4 and after been directed this way I would register and post a couple of pictures of my current project. Wont bore you with too much, but would be nice to have a few opinions and help now and again. So here she is just a few photos to show the basic story so far, at the moment the shell is at the sandblasters ready to be blasted so I can get down to repairing all the holes that have appeared over the years. Good old rust You get the Idea anyway there are loads of pictures here http://s146.photobucket.com/albums/r255/itsdieselpower/Project 165/?albumview=slideshow of the progress if you feel like a browse. Oh yes and Happy new year to all!
Hellooo stranger! You still up LOL. These guys will love the pics, like we said before,so nice to see someone rescue a classic car that has been sitting in a field, ready to dissolve....and you definitely have the right idea, within a couple of weeks you have her down to a shell...any more techical issues this site is the one to be on,no question.Massive respect, the UK weather has no respect for gen4s,loving your project and commitment
Looking good ! Gives me a warm feeling when somebody is going to take care of a 4th gen that thoroughly !! Welcome to the 4th gen crazy peops !
im going to be following this build thread very closely! gonna do any seam welding while its on the spit?
Thanks for the Warm welcome guys. Why would you want to see more pictures of the rust :shock will have a look though the pictures there is like 140 odd at the moment there are quite a few holes though as Mr Sherv said this English weather and roads has not done it any favors. The stand was a must, floor pans will be cut out so will help massively to do this and weld in. Yes I think I will weld the seams up also try and add a bit more strength back into her. As I say waiting for it to be blasted so only then will the extent of holiness be know of course I will update you with pictures of this also.
welcome to the club buddy, from across the pond in eire... get a load more of the photos up also get close ups of the stand if possible?
Hi mate you are only up the road from me, as said before I will pop up and see you soon. one very lucky 165 :bowdown
Stands are a kit off ebay £170 if I remember correctly, now they are nothing special and will be honest I could have made a better job and made some myself I just wanted to save the time doing so. Pictures of the rust....
lol Steve - go back to the beginning of Dave's "Dirty Deeds" thread or Mafix's "Nemesis" thread. Both are excellent reads on rust & panel replacing. Interesting, the UK cars seem to suffer from a lot of rust in the engine bay but your's hasn't. I'm interested to see if there's any rust in the roof and bootlid - mine seems to have cancer is these areas for some reason. Also I found many small holes under the roof gutters and the boot sill seems to be a problem on 90% of cars
Ah yes told you there were a lot of pictures, there is surface rust around the engine bay but nothing major. The Boot rust you say
welcome from the states, holy cow you are the ambitious one.......dont get me wrong i love it...i just almost feel guilty to have a rust free car. Good luck to you im positive you will have an awesome ride when finished.
Got a few more pictures for you only from saturday these, they tell the story better than I do. You may start to notice I am slightly crazy in how I go about these things, but im an Agricultural engineer what do you expect. Well the engine has been looking at me with puppy dog eyes, I said to myself I wasnt going to touch it till I knew what state my shell come back in, but bugger it. I wanted to do something so the engine had a bit of strip down with a lot of ideas going though my head of a nice paint job and perhaps a bit of tuning but nothing silly. Here it is.... Charge cooler removed with complimentary oil :roll Gearbox removed, no pictures of clutch It did look ok to be fair but will probably replace it none the less just for piece of mind. Mounted on my engine stand Cat removed Intake manifold removed, gunk comes FOC Exhaust manifold has been repaired at some point but is starting to crack again along the weld...... Removed the turbo and manifold Think the turbo may have seal issues..... about a tablespoon of oil poured out when I turned it upside down I couldnt find my small pullers so bugger it, what will do a lot will do a little as they say. :lol If only I could pull the ladies as well........... I can but dream. Timing belt looks a little slack in its old age. So this is what it looks like now.
looks like quite some work left for you Turbo technics in the uk, so not original turbo or refurbished? what was the burned piece??
Welcome, nice facilities you have to work on that 165. Looking forward to see the progression on this project.
