Re: jwagner's project: "the dog" new fuel pump

had an itching to build something today. and trying to keep it on the cheap. ive been deciding how i want to officially delete the rear seat. its currently out, but id like to cover up the spot and close the opening to the "trunk". i think that will knock the noise down a few notches. the battery relocate is gonna be a part of it so i thought id start there. built a tray and welded it in. fits very snug and secure, i actually amazed myself. ill do the wiring this week. ill move all the + links ect. into this location, and clean up some of the wiring in the bay. could come up with a cool box for a pod filter.

-as i was typing this the bulb on my dlp big screen just blew up....aggg. those aint cheap.

Re: "the dog", working on a wire tuck

wire tuck in progress. deicded to put the engine fuse boxes in the back, theyll be hidden along with the batt when i get there. this is the left side body harness being reconfigured, ill sort it first and then tackle the engine harness as the engine harness needs to plug into the main engine fuse panel. while the body harness doesnt need to much mod (say 30 solders) the engine harness will get a pretty extensive overhaul as i want to seperate it and have some comming in from each fender. really i think this will only be considerer a partial tuck since youll see some of the connections, but for the most part every thing will be out of sight. this will leave pletty of room for a boxed CAI, catch can, ect. will also incorporate fog wiring.

-im still pondering the idea of a manual rack, then using an mr2 alternator bracket to hide the alt behind the motor. might be a small improvement to cog and balance, and would clean up the bay nicely.

-also removed the battery tray. what a pain! theres like 9 spot welds holding that thing on. trimmed the fuel filter bracket.

-ive got to find some 10gauge tomorrow to finish the body harness.

Re: "the dog", working on a wire tuck

-id love to hide that thing. its one of my bigest gripes about the bay, the alt and that branch of wiring. might make it a pita to change, but think about the bay without that or any of the p.s. stuff. id be damn near empty cept the motor.

-maybe people are putting the belt to tight?

good point. it'll be damn clean to look at! i've bought a junkyard alternator 9 months ago and put the belt a little bit loose and it's been giving me great charging!

rockauto.com my go-to internet parts place. iirc they may have been the last ones at that price, but youll still have multiple options from different manufacturers.

Re: "the dog", working on a wire tuck

-finished up and installed the new body harness (driverside). i was going to incorporate wiring for fog into this but forgot. so i just wraped 4 wires, and ran them along side it. the set of connections in the middle left go to the d.s. kick panel, everything after that runs back to the "engine bay" fuse panels on the back seat. other than that its run normally. unfortunatly other than cutting the frame or leaving the harness exposed theres not a convienient way to hide the bit in the bay behind the headlight.

-hopefully will be done this weekend, and this little project is suprisingly more expensive than id have thought.

Nice Jon, I seem to remember somebody else trying this years ago and eventually ran out of money & patience, I think the name was also Jon?

I'll be doing something like this on a smaller scale sometime - My plan is to move the Alt, fan & A/C wires to the radiator
side and also make engine swaps a lot easier.

Many cars nowdays have electric p/s pumps, which I think could be interesting having both a weight saving and the ability
    to switch off.
Just haven't found an affordable one yet

Re: "the dog", working on a wire tuck

-done. and everything works. and it starts nicely even when cold.....?.......no idea. id have to say its nice, but i was still looking to hide were it comes throught the firewall, but was (like stig said) running out of paitince.

    -the good.

-new security system....just pull the efi fuse
-pletty of room for a sweet custom cai with box.
-batery lower and closer to center.
    -bay looks cleaner
-will need to officially do the back seat delete, asap.

    -the bad.

    -its damn meticulous.
-ran around $300ish for all the wire, tape, split loom, ect.
-whole fricn car needs to be taken apart.
-probably took 9 trips to the hardware store.
-didnt drive it for 2+ weeks

-also ordered fogs, and an afr. should be here this week.

    -pics.

-oh btw stig, mr2 has electric p.s. while doing the wiring i decided that the p.s. is for sure gonna get removed and the rack gutted. may get a spare at a junk yard for that project.

Yea, the MR2 ones are unreliable - hence being expensive and hard to find.
I was looking at Merc and BMW types

    Nice job

Clean, much more clean. That's alot of wires to have gone into the hood! Looking at your engine makes me want to slap on a huge turbo to fill the gap :mrgreen Awesome job. :cheers
