ok i found a car wow

    Day 1

just bought it towed it home..

the guy who sold me this car is a faggot.
he sed it had power windows & locks, ran & drove fine etc etc,

got the car sold by a friend

"oh i dunno he just sed $800 for it"
well i paid the man, he lied and sed the battery was dead, but when i got home he had just disconected the terminal so i wouldnt see the engine running... cooling PISSING out the muffler.

anyway i immediatly get to the sound system install, being a lack of tools stopping me from workign on the head.

    i had two 6X9s (boot)
    two 6" 3ways (doors)
    and two 8" subs (boot)

& a phillips CD player (console)

    Rampage rmp600 amp (boot)
    &
    subwoofer pre amp (boot)

had two remove the rear carpet, passenger seat shitloads of interior panels, partly remove carpet, rear seats etc etc

sound system took me a while being my first install with an amp.

eventualyl got it all done, interior restored, sound system KICKS

dont really like the setup thought looks to plain for such stylish equipment.

Day i dunno 20th? lol dont forget im a student. lets jsut say its the 4th day of working:

    Day 4:
    started removing hte head...
cam covers, alternator, belt covers, exhaust manifold etc etc

after about 3 days the head came off, only expecting a need for a new gasket, i find the need for a new head

coolant line corrosion into the combustion chamber caused the need for it.

    anyway enough depression.

    lol

    Day 9

now, purchased a new head, bolts, timing belt & brake pads

    all still havent arrived

been doing other jobs (car has alot lol)

such as: removing covers ready for knew timing belt,
front neon install, battery transfer to the boot/trunk,
poor mans short shifter, and insequently putting a dent in her

    Day 11:

Timing belt arrived in the mail today
    still waiting on head bolts

my new cylidner head is getting picked up 2moro :D cant wait

continued spraying the balancer and etc such a bitch of a job lol

who knows hwo much harmonic balancers cost? cuz the puller cracked the sides of it off...

got an adapter for my air flow senser to a pod filter...

really just little things until i get the head on.

my subwoofers are 240 watts and my amp can pump hten until they distort fine, and my friend is now giving me a free pair of 500watt subs haha

    lol

so people please keep posting comments about my dent and such

    Day 12:

My new head arrived today, will start putting old heads parts on new one (intake, distributor, exhaust, etc)

    heres the head
    [IMG]

this head has done 70,000 km and was then rebuilt, then taken off a car!
    lol
(thats what the seller said anyway)

everything on this head is the same as my old head but for some reasion
(ill describe from pics view) the upper middle of the picture youll see the cam cover bolts, in the middle 2 bolts (upper n lower) youll see theres actually 3 cam cover bolt threads :wtf:

so obvioulsy everything on the head lines up except for that cam cover bolt...

is this from a different engine or something?

and i also noticed that there is some usable aluminium which could be used for "tap and die" a thread for a bolt.....

any coments, ideas or suggestions feel free to share!!

uh, that looks like a turbo head.

    and would there be any

    horsepower/torque/fueleconomy

    loss or difference ?

well GTE owners put the GE cams in their engines IIRC so I tihnk you're losing performance. I'm guessing the head itself won't work since mafix made a point of saying it's a turbo head.

  12. Sterling

    Sterling Guest

yeh but there cant be that much difference from a turbo head to a n/a head can there?

and it actually have the cams from my old head still so i could swap them

As far as i know the difference is in the cams, and I'm not sure if you can put GE cam covers on a GTE head. Try it and see :)

if you use the ge cams and the gte cover i don't see why it would hurt. (i've never tried putting the ge cover on the gte head...should work though.)

  15. Sterling

    Sterling Guest

yeah i dont have the covers but all the bolts line up & the cam seal tops are sealed fine so yeah i think im all good thanks guys

    Day 16:

Continued swapping parts for the replacement head, such as :
    cams
    distributer
cam gear shrowell (had to use the one from old head cuz 3sgte one is only half of one)
    intake system & manifold
    thermostat housing
    other little things

head will be ready to be installed soo just having trouble gettiing time to work on it..

haha and dont worry "i <3 my Celica"
its just a neon for fun.. no way am i gonna rice out this car,
i see the celica as a sport car not a tuner or ricer

new paint idea: gold crystal shatter all around, OR green shatter with blue shatter roof bonnet & spoiler. a little outragous but thats my "style" lol 8)

realised from a friend i wired up my front and rear speakers wrong
had to remove about 70% of interior to do taht, while i was at it i installed a subwoofer pre amp

    will get picture tommorow,

    my carpet is out
    front seats
    rear seats
    center console
    shifter & ebrake console
    and thats about it lol

all parts arrived, cant wait to get the car running, need to replace the harmonic balancer/crank pulley

right atm, head is off and all interior parts listed above,
i looked at the front wheel wells (from the outside)
its amazing how much weight is in just those, i mean the from has raised a fiarly noticeable amount, rear probably has to just not as much..

that damn dent is still staring me in the face

thats a pretty big dent man... i suggest looking around for a replacement panel? either than or take it somewhere to get fixed... im assuming you havent worked with pulling dents out previously. neither have i so i cant offer much advice in that area sorry!

That dent isn't something I would try and bog, I would go see a panel beater if it was me. That panel is non-replaceable anyway unless you work for a panel beater, or pay a lot of money to get it done...

Out of curiosity, I'm guessing your SX is either a late 1985 model or very early 1986 model? What is the build date on the compliance plate? I'm betting it will be an early 1986 model, between January and March.

    Sterling Guest

i searched the engine bay, and doors and coulnt find a built date, only a year and model etc

just bought a new torque wrench, and to tell the truth to you guys

the reason i havent been doing much work and havent updated in a while is cuz i was kicked out of home... :(

im back in now tho so its all coool

cool like a fool in a swimming pool

so yeah the car will be running within the next month

    hehe cant wait

ooook searching for a head bolt socket tip

    and then the heads on!

interior still stripped (battery & curcuit problems  )
just bought some silver "mag wheel" speaker covers for my 6"ers in the doors they have 6 blue LEDS in them they look awesome at night.

    dent still left untouched.....
    :?

had has 3sge cams, injectors, intake & exhaust manifolds, thermostat housing, distributer, etc etc

new cam seals, new gaskets all round, new spark plugs, etc etc

so F--KING ANXIOUS to drive the jap ferrari
