Engine is ready to be lowered. Now before i lower it i need some opinions. Im just trying to take the trans out, so i know i need to unbolt the driver side engine mount, but do i need to do the passanger side one as well? I know i need 1 jack for the engine, which i placed under the oil pan, and 1 for the trans. Where would a good place for under the trans be? Do i need more than one jack for the trans? How many bolts do i need to take out to disconect the trans. Anyone want to edit the picture and circle which bolts need to come out please. Help would be greatly apriciated by now becuase i havn't broken a single bolt or item yet. Yeah! im not gonna break something now since i've come this far. O and one more think, do i NEED to disconect the power stearing unit? I know im asking alot but this is the first time i've taken the engine out celica. Thanks
fuck i cant get the trans to seperate from the block. Im certain that i have all the bolts removed. i have a jack under the oil pan and one under that trans. Should i just pull as hard as i can?
im having ALOT of trouble getting the trans out... stil. It still wont seperate and i've taken alot of bolts off. In the pic below, the bolts with x's, i've taken out. The circle is the piece im wondering about. BTW, this is an st165. I can kindof see where the item is that is circled, but it would be a SOAB to even get at. Its above/in between the passanger side axle and propelarshaft. Speedo cable is being a bitch btw. It dosn't want to move, its only 1 bolt, right?
since ive dont remeber where the piece is circled is attached too..you may or may not have to remove it....and do you have the front motor mount out?? cause its not "x" out.
i actually had some time between school and work to go buy an engine hoist and try to remove the tranny. Now i noticd that on the shift cables, there are clips holding them down. see picture. Do i need to take these off? or can i leave them on because they seem to be pretty damn stick, i ripped my hand open trying to get them off already.
goddamn it, my trans wont seperate from my block *cry*. im about to give up. I have a hoist, 4 jacks, and a bunch of shit. im like 1000 percent sure i have all the bolts out. Is there a way for the trans to get stuck to the engine? help please, i need it.
mine was hanging on by a puny little bolt on the dust cover. can you at least pry the tranny off a bit? or is it not budging at all?
wierd...well double check yet agai n that you didn't miss a bolt and maybe give it some thwacks from a rubber mallet...that combines with a prybar got mine off, they do stick together quite well, I tihnk the vibration helped wiggle it free.
There might be one bolt. Its that dust cover bolt. look for it. Dude just pull the whole engine out and seperate it all with it all out. It takes me 2 days to do a clutch.
Did you take off both lower crossmember braces? There's an engine mount right below the intake manifold that was a BITCH to get out for me....since I didn't remove the crossmembers.... But I managed to get it out eventually but it was tricky... Maybe that mount it still stuck on ya?
all the crossmembers are removed. Im gonna check for more bolts, but i've pulled 14 now I am really thinking about just pulling the whole engine speed. I would need to disconnect the ecu, and power steering. But i dont have chains to connect the engine to the hoist. I just have a tow strap to wrap around the trans.
that dang trans finaly came off with ALOT of pulling and bitching. now when i was taking the pressure plate off , the clutch disk just fell so i dont know which way to put it on. Does the typing on the disk face the trans or engine? O, and does my flywheel need to be resurfaced? I noticed the new pressure plate has a smaller hole in it, does that really matter?
so i go to put my clutch on today and the f***er doesn't fit. The hole for the shaft is too small, so i need to know what size it is. I know its a 21 count spindle but whats the diameter. thx. btw its 4 a st165
good work gettin the motor out finally zak! I ended up lifting mine out of the top though...I guess that's harder to do with a 3sgte eh?? that's no good that you got the wrong clutch booo!
I would recomend getting the flywheel turned its just a good idea it will allow your clutch to engage smoother. Iam having the same problem you were but in the reverse order, my tranny wont go back on.
i got my flywheel resurfaced. I would post a picture of the the clutch not fitting correctly but as i took the picture the camera shut off and wont turn on, wtf?!?! today sucks. i did go and order a new disk from advanced auto because the site i ordered my clutch kit off of wont give me a refund or a new one. I asked them if i could have my money back and they said no cuz its been 2 months since i ordered it. I also asked if i could have a new one and they said no for the same reason. So i was like wtf?!?! they then said i would have to call tech support to help me fit the clutch. I basicly bitched them out explaining you can't just modify a clutch disk to make it fit and that i dont want a new one from them cuz if they fucked this one up who knows if the next one will be too
