Wow! If you do metal fab you should make custom boxes for people. It would really only be 3 different variations for the 4 gen, depending if it's an alltrac, or GT/GTS and/or if the person did a batt. relocation.

I'll show 'ya how I did the prototype, but I have to make another since I added the custom duct hose. Like I said, it's wayy rough. Did it this way just to get dimensions and a basic idea how the bends would be.

Here's the box prototype (with no top) for a 3sfe or a 3sge with a stock intake hose and non-relocated batt set-up. This wouldn't work for you though, unless you want back to the stock hose.

Talked to the guy Chris again today. He's kinda stoked about the project, wants to start asap. He wants to weld it up HAHAHA, I figured He'd just use silicone and pop-rivit it! :D Might as well cut some vinyl and slap that shit on it too! He may be willing to make more, depending on price and how long it takes him to make one.

I wouldnt worry about it messing up the engine if you buy a good air filter and keep up the maintainance, usually oil/cleaning 1 time roughly @50K intervals. It may make it run a BIT more lean, but not enough to worry about. Most cars run rich and the celica is no exception, its for safety of the engine in most cases, but you will get slightly better gas mileage if you drive it normal. If your hard, you may get worse gas mileage because the engine is able to put more air/gas in with a higher flowing, bigger intake. I put a AEM intake on and have been fine for 10 months. I even had to open up the MAF sensor and lean it out on the dials inside, but thats a bit advanced if you dont know what your doing, but I had to lean it out quite a bit for the record.

Eh... probably not anything you or I would ever notice, because the car still has to make the same x.x hp to move at any speed. If you were adding alot of weight, or towing somthing, maybe then this would become more of an issue. For an intake, dont even worry about this.

I am pretty sure the temp sensor is built into the maf or the intake. There are/were no wires elsewhere in the intake track for my gt/gts. Alltrack may be different.

For putting the filter at the end of the stock maf position, no. If you run pipes lower than that spot, I would if I thought water could get to it from a uddle.

Thanks for the info. This is a pretty old post, so I'm good. I just reposted lately since I'm doin' the air box soon. This is where I'm currently @, but the whole engine/ecu/exhaust etc. is going out and the JDM 3sge and etc. is going in. :D

I've found 3 diff. guys who are willing. Plan to see soon who makes the nicest one. Not sure of the cost, 100 maybe flat-fee? I'm assuming there will be more than one made which would be up for grabs.

Whats the price for a square foot of aluminum? It looks to me like less than 4 square feet to make the box.

I've got a sheet metal bender so I could make these as a fully assembled unit or just the individual pieces as a kit that you could assemble to save on shipping.

The source of figures were from that mold I made for my car while the battery in stock location and the cone filter was on there. I need better mesurements than I have for the right side where the sensor will rest.
The box would be alum and either rivited or welded together. The one guy wants to polish and weld it since that's his occupation. Obviously, that would be more expensive than riviting. The front was possibly going to have a 3" bung for my ductwork too.
