Gave it an oil change and put coolant in it today and took it for a bigger burn.

The clutch is turbo fncked, haha, will powerspin in 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

Geez it goes well though, as far as bottom end torque goes it's got a shit tonne, way more then the 205.

Looks like a chance is in order. Is there a write up on here (I've done clutches in other cars but there might be little hints with the 162 that could make my life easier).

    Cheersyeathanksalot.

So took it for another drive tonight to take a friend home after the gym. It just drives so nice, not harsh and hard like my other cars.

The battery is sad too, also the dodgy radiator repair has failed so I might have to do it properly and get a replacement.

Try to get an auto radiator - it's thicker
Only radiator that fits is the Corona ST190 but the top hose location is in the centre.
You can use a ST182/5 radiator but will need to shift the bottom brackets and mod the top brackets

It would be only the top tank I would replace if possible. I'm actually a fitter and machinist by trade so making new brackets isn't an issue.

There is no way I'll be keeping it though, I have 4 people with cash waiting ready to buy it when the time comes.

    Need some 162 advice kids.
This is the go, did the clutch change and there is a vibration under load. It is speed based and not rev based (so im ruling out clutch). I'm not sure if it was there before or not because of the previous slipping clutch you couldn't put it under much load before it slipped.

So what happens is you drive along and if you are at a steady pace over say 50 or 60km/h then the vibration is slight, then if you give it some beans then the vibration gets worse. If you are coasting or have your foot on the clutch then the vibration goes away. I checked the engine mounts and they are fine, I got a second opinion from a mechanic mate and he thinks the control arm bushes in the front.

Anybody had this issue before? The passenger side driveshaft came apart when I pulled them out. But there is no knocking noises or clicks on full lock either way.

    Cheers peeps.

I'm agreeing with your mate, get someone to drive it forward and backward and watch the wheels for movement, some of the mounts get oil contamination and look fine but are soft as.... and will cause the wheels to toe-in under acceleration

My second guess is the intermediate shaft on the drivers side, the bearing or bracket could be loose

The FE/Camry type driveshafts have a tripod (3 bearing) inner CV that pulls apart easy, is that what you're referring to?

Well it did have a leaking front main before I redid it, so OIL WENT ALL THE PLACES. Ill get under it after the weekend and use a pry bar to see if there is much movement.
I know I did the bracket up tight so that can't be the issue.

When I was pulling the passenger side driveshaft out the centre came out of the outer.

That sounds VERY wrong?? Put it back together and check for play

I don't mean the shaft came out of anything, just the boot came off and the inner part of the inner cc came out of the cup.

I put in the nolethane front bushes today, it's taken the knock out of the front end so I'm happy with that, $100 well spent.

A confession must be made, although this car has cost next to nothing and has been all but faultless I have not grown attached to it at all, which is disappointing. It will make it easier to part with when the times comes I guess.
On a side note I am loving not having a low car atm (since I'm still waiting for the manifold for the 205 this is my only transport that is running and/or registered), going a normal speed over speed bumps (which I do multiple times at work because I work in a shopping centre and the car park is full of them) is a welcome break.

take it out for a flogging. handling wise. you'll love it then. these were the best handling cars (being a front front car) you could buy in the late 80's.

It's not that it's a bad car, it isn't, it's good for what it is and especially the year it was made as you said. But coming from the 205, Chaser and others its not quite the same.

I think it knows I don't care for it because it's started giving me trouble :p

It's become increasingly difficult to start (went from being perfect to rubbish in 3 days), I pulled the cold start injector and it gives only one quick pulse when cranking, is this correct?

The 205 should be back on the road by mid way through next week. The 185 will be a month or so. The mini probably another month after that, lol.

I'll be bringing the 205 up north pretty soon, I need to go for another fly and catch up with people I've not seen in ages.
