Hey all, noobie here, but a long LONG time member on many other forums (Toyomods, Ozcelica, JZX100, 6gc, ToyoTas, etc) and admin on Ozcelica and ToyoTas.
I've done all the work on my own cars (with the exception being the bulk of the tuning and the engine machine work) being a fitter and machinist by trade i'm pretty competent with a lathe, mills, welders, etc so I've been lucky enough to be able to make my own custom parts.

Quick run down, I have had the ST205 for 6.5 years, many many modifications, been in a couple of magazines and in the paper etc. last dyno (I've changed the turbo twice since then) it made 265kw atw (so around 350hp at the wheels), after it's tuned for the GT3582r I have now I'm looking at 300kw atw (which is 400hp atw, which is around 500hp at the engine)

The Chaser is the daily driver/cruise bus and has only light mods, exhaust, modified stock airbox, front mount, bit of boost etc. That makes 200kw atw (around 280hp atw) which is plenty enough for daily, they do a mid 13 second 1/4 mile in stock form so its no slouch.

Picked up this pretty mint condition White Lightning ST162. It has done 250 000kms, new tyres all round, new alarm system, pioneer head unit but is otherwise 100% stock. Keen eyes will spot the only defect in the body is down the passenger side behind the door, its only minor. There is a small patch of rust in the sunroof which will be fixed.
The radiator top tank has cracked as you can see, and the head gasket has just blown but I picked up this bucket of magnificence for the grand total of $100.

Plan is to chuck in a new HG, new timing belt, new radiator top tank, tint the windows and sell it again to make a quick dollar.

I would like to find new "White Lightning" decals if anyone knows where to get them.

I hope to get some info from you fine folks on the ST162 and fill my knowledge gaps on this model/car.

Anyone have a full run down on the White Lightning and what was specific to it?
What I've gathered so far it was the last hoorah for the 162 in Australia before the ST18* came in, the all white trims and wheels, GT-four seats, the decals obviously, and 300 made?

    Cheers

    Hi Cuts,

Good to have you over here

I can't add any more than I said on Toymods, I'm sure others have more info though. Stig and 89celicagt are our decal guys, try them for the graphics.

    Cheers
    Matt

Hi and welcome from the UK.

Why would you want to sell such a beautiful looking thing ?

To make money is the simple reason.

I am growing more fond of it the more I work on it, and it's only been 1 day haha.

Welcome, Woooooo Hoooooo, another Limited Edition White Lightning. If IIRC this is only the second one I'v seen since I'v been here and only the fourth one ever, who knows how many are in good running order these days, but Ill bet it's just a handfull or two.

Yes they are the last of the 162's and to this day after much research I'm still unsure how many were made, it's somewhere between 150-300. Anyone else have a clue ??????

I love my GT-Four seats, soooooo comfy. Mine is an auto with ECT - ELECTRONIC CONTROL TRANSMISSION, and I have cruise control. I don't have that pinstriping around the protector strips, it could've been an after thought by somebody.

Sunroof rust is common and what is that switch thingy near your hood latch ?

Stig does have some WL decal designs and although only slightly different they should be fine, when you buy them could you take a pic of them for me before you put them on the car and lay a tape measure beside them

You ask what is specific to our cars..... It is Limited Edition because it is the last of the 162's and it was released only in Australia, the decals, wheels and colour are specific of course. Cruise control on the auto and possibly air con was an optional extra on purchase, nothing else mechanical and ABS is standard.

Your car is in fantastic conditon. For 100 clams it is a dead set steal, did you steal it :hehe and even if you spent 1000 biscuits on it, it still is.

    Welcome Cuts...

    GT-Four seats?
All european st162 were offered with this kind of seat in standart. Same fabric, same color (grey was also available).
But I have to agree with our favorite spider : they are so comfy..... :p

Welcome aboard!! Can't wait to see this project get under way! :)
And that is a standard steering wheel? Or do all white lightnings come like that? I'm not sure, but I'm just used to seeing the cruise control buttons being located somewhere on the steering wheel

My cruise buttons are on the RHS of the wheel :cheers

I had the same steering wheel on my old '89 SX. Mine had cruise too but I can't recall where the controls were located, part of my brain is telling me they were on a stalk on the steering column, but i don't quite remember.. :(

We didn't get those seats in any other model François, the GT4/All-Trac was never sold here (only a handful of private imports), and we got these seats standard (I assume, I've never seen an Aus-delivered car with different seats):

too bad MattC...these seats are "only" ok...but my st162 indeed had the nice seats standard :

That part of your brain is fried, sydney smog and Alzheimer's maybe :mrgreen

Seriously tho, I'm yet to see cruise on a stalk, anyone else :munch............ Those window winders make me shudder.

Interesting info on the seats Matt, if those are standard in your pic then the GT-Four seats in the White Lightning was another unique feature, I dunno because of the rarity of the WL, Cut's seats are only the second set I have ever seen for the WL and definately much better build quality, I'd like to hear more from the lads :cheers

the seats in the white lighning were the only ones of tgere kind factoy realeased in australia. they never came out in any other aus delivered st16x

as you already have gathered cuts they where the last hoorah for the 4th gen. it was mainly a last desperate attempt at getting rid of them.
the only thing special about them was the seats and the color coded trims and rims with the WL decals. other then that shes juat another 4th gen

yep, bit like an XC Cobra, just a decal-and-option pack to shift the last of the shells. You couldn't give them away 10 years ago either...

It is entirely possible my brain made that up to fill in a gap. Unfortunately I have no pictures of the inside of my old car :(
I don't mind manual windows - less to go wrong! :lol

The decals are out of production - best we can do is duplicate them in vinyl
    [IMG]

On my thread I built a Lighting replica with red decals but opted not to do the sides.

Yep, production was 300 - untill now not much demand for them but in the future genuine original models will be worth heaps, they are already getting pretty scarce
It's a stock Oz spec SX with detail and interior changes - JDM seats, sound, sunroof etc
    [IMG]

Unfortunately I think you'll find the sunroof has rotted from the inside - normal on all gen 4s
    [IMG]

All JDM's came stock with velvet electric seats and the Fijutsu 10 sound system, never seen cruise control or ABS on one though

Yeah I knew they were the last of the 4th gen to shift them, they did the same thing with the WRC edition ST184 (boo) and I there was a 6th gen I think it was the SX-R.

How much for the vinyl stiggy?

As for the sunroof one of my mates is a spray painter and he owes me a favor or two so I'll be hitting him up to see what he can do on the sunroof, even if its a rust kill and bog job it will be better then nothing.

As for the dents on the side I might give Mr Ding-go a call (he is a mobile guy who are specialists in knocking dents out without damaging the paint or requiring respraying.
