Im thinking im gonan go back to my 14's and run higher tire pressure to get stiffer sidewalls. With the new paint scheme I think it suits the car better. I rolled them up next to the car, what do you think? There a good amount lighter and the correct tire size for the car. p.s id probably run some wheel spares to bring them out further than stock. p.s.s they arnt installed just placed next to the car in the picture
Those 14s with spacers I think will benefit you way more, they look a bit better (to me the mr7s are getting old), and there light weight.
lots of updates since the crash, not much time to type it tonight. short story JDM 3sge, 6th gen s54 trans and new clutch planned rad started to leak, going friday to the yard to try and find something Questions: Anyone got a JDM ECU? Mafix, whats the physical difference between USDM and JDM 3sge's? I know you could tell by something under the valve covers (besides ECU and EGR changes) Can I swap the dif's between my s53 and s54 to get a taller gear ratio (s54 has a 4.176:1 vs 3.944:1 final drive, gears are the same ratio) Glad To Be Back!! 8) :!:
Wow Meph I've never seen version 3.0 of your car - it looks FREAKIN' AWESOME!! Is that actually what it looks like or is it what you plan to do?
what were u looking for under the valve covers to tell jdm from usdm? I know how to tell them apart now, but im just trying to wrap my mind around the extra 15 hp the JDM has over ours. an EGR dosnt operate with no vacuum (WOT) so those number have to come from somewhere, besides the ECU changes, was there anything physically different? Do you still have the big collection of ecu's? including a few JDMs I remember you mentioning? Im debating if the JDM engine and ECu would be worth the swap. I can get the engine for sub 500 dollars but id like to definitively know where the extra 15 hp came from.
in my experience with owning both jdm and usdm engines, the cams measure the same, 89celicagt, maybe the cams you mentioned sre aftermarket? toyota is not going to like waste money on different cams for one country of cars. the only diffs between the two are as follows. ecu, jdm has 10 hp gain on stock, due to more aggressivly tuned, egr, jdm simply does not have it, (less load on the engine) turbo, jdm are ceramic, usdms are steel turbines, couple of sensors are different, ie water outlet, intake mani.. ect. alot of the plugs are different, other than that, there pretty much identical.....
10 hp seems like a big gain just from tuning. GT2 the plugs are different between the JDM and USDM engines? I would have thought they'ed be identical. So i wonder why swapping ECU's does not make for a gain in power, with identical engines you think it would be an instant gain; that is unless the sensors are truly different and cause problems. I may be wrong but i remember reading that some people tryed JDM ecu's and lost power. Id really love to finally solve this mystery.
