This weeks haul - From an imported Aussie White Lightning, apart from a busted LHS indicator is immaculate
Car scrapped due to dist seal leaking!

Speaker boxes for Oxi, toolkits, Alpine radio has better radio reception than new units, pass side electric mirror,
Grille clips, complete grille, RHS indicator, early GE header cover - (strange flat type?), inlet pipe has 2 VSV's on it?,
202 inlet hose (no stoopid dip), boot lock (mine loose), clips, clamps, switches etc
    [IMG]
St182, 162 radiators, rear panels (mine stuffed), gauges (240km/h), grille, spoiler, 182 engine loom, RHS indicator

These are the gauges from the White Lightning, has ECT, no ECT-S!

    ECT vs ECT-S switches
    [IMG]

Outlet water pipe has 2 temp controlled VSV's? - weird
    [IMG]

Some std radio's I bought - top is JDM radio only, bottom is the JDM Toyota
    R/T/CD unit (still working)
I'm putting it in the Auto, Sambo's 89 has this unit and I see it in the ST182's as well

    JDM Corona 3 core radiator

Today I had to go into the country to pick up a spare radiator,

Good news is it's a monster 3 core auto version, my FE has a 2 core auto rad as standard

Not sure what Corona it's from, seems some autos have bigger radiators than others. (Diesel maybe?)
Fitting it is going to be a be-arch, the exh pipes are now even closer to the fans, it is obstructed by
the bodywork on the sides and the front engine mount is in the way if the fan cowling. The bottom mounts are
in the correct places but the top hose is also too close to the ex manifold
I've been wanting to make alu rad hoses for a while now, seems like the perfect candidate

Re: JDM parts, $1 Celica's, TEMS from New Zealand....

Yea, got a pile of other stuff to fix as well, 2 computers, 2 razors, 2 xboxes, 1 drill etc

    TEMS is taking shape
    [IMG]
For some weird reason the new dash is stopping the passenger door from closing properly?,
alu gearnob reminds me of my racing days, all blue lighting installed
Note to self - find a better cubby cover

    Passenger side seat harness installed
    [IMG]
    Drivers side harness
    [IMG]

Dash LEDS not illuminating the rev counter side properly for some reason?

New leather boot, ebay knob & TEMS suspension switch re-located to the front,
Alpine tape deck will go in under the mp3 player (it has phenominal radio reception)

I had the same problem with my red leds. A bad bulb socket contact. It was working with the cluster in hands, but not in place on car.

Another problem, the illumination is not as bright than with classical bulbs.
However, I used 6 watts leds.
It seems that classical 5 watts bulbs give a better result.

Re: JDM parts, $1 Celica's, TEMS from New Zealand....

The bulbs are working and I've added chrome tape on the inside but the rev counter is still very dull?
(yours is also dull on the 1-5000 side?)

I think I must get some of the LEDS with 5 bulbs in one. At least now it's easy to change to Red, green, white or yellow
I found a clear cigarette lighter lens as well last week but struggling to find the very small LED bulbs.
I also now have clear lenses for the doors (stole that idea from Rev & ran) :)

Mine looks worse in the picture (shit camera), probably the same as yours in real life
there's something stopping the light behind the rev counter?

The clear lenses are from the boot light, just cut the holder the same shape

Added Towbar, deleted mudflaps and an idea for a custom #plate?

ST182 interior fitted to ST162 Celica

And now for something completely different!
I finally got my interior functional again:
    Before - stock blue interior
    [IMG]

During - Rustproofing, new dash vents, new wiring, alarm, tints, winders, switches, gauges,
windscreen, massive sound, leather boot, Alu knob etc.
Junked the Momo in favour of the stock steering - just feels more comfortable

After - It's a Gen 5 (ST182) interior in the Gen 4 TEMS, both seats are electric and more comfortable with better
support than the Gen4 items. 4x Gen 5 seats - $11 courtesy of ebay! (gotta luv it)
Black/grey is not a JDM option except for the grey leather in the GT4's
    [IMG]

Note these wipers have flaps on them

New aluminium boot cover, light & strong
    [IMG]
Cover I cut from 5mm ACM (Alu Composite Material - offcuts from any sign shop) and fitted
the old brackets from my rotten cover. It's covered with felt, you could use fleece, towelling etc.

Rear seat and door inserts come from my 1st Corona 162 coupe, for some weird reason they released
a few with the same material as used in later ST182's.
There is a new Canadian member who looks like it has the same material in a coupe.

I still have the grey Corona front seats but they are boring in comparison. Comfy as, but no lateral support or electrics

Fitting the seats is a PITA, the 182's rails are closer together and the rear brackets are the same height.
It meant cutting off all the brackets and swapping them out, you can't use spacers etc.
Good news is I was able to create more legroom for my 6'4" self by moving the seat back slightly on the mounts.
Interior space is the same as it's a 162 rear seat and the fronts are actually slightly narrower than the stock seats

I've been wanting to do this since my spares car came with modded 202 seats, they had "CELICA"
emdroidered in them but the blue/pink material was impossible to match
    [IMG]

Carpet not yet fitted till I sort the wiring "gremlins"

Here's the ashtray insert someone was asking about, that's the TEMS suspension switch relocated to the dash
    [IMG]

Who said you need to spend money on aftermarket parts to build something different & cool?

These are the correct dash bulbs (pic/info courtesy of Rev) The T10's are even better than the
ones on offer here. Nobody sells the T5's here yet, so may have to hit ebay some more banghead
    [IMG]

The radiator is in, someone told me it's a Corona diesel auto version and I'm inclined to agree
The Gen2 manifold will have to go on ice for a while as you can see the problem with the fans and top hose.
Solutions include finding another top tank and making up an alu radiator hose which clears the headers
This thing is awesome, it takes 3X longer for the car to warm up though with the same thermostat and
    holds 1,5l more water
    [IMG]

I have a "problem" maybe someone can advise on. In the past all my cars have had high oil pressure
on startup which decreased as the oil got hotter. On both the 3S-FE and GE motors, oil pressure starts low
and increases with temperature. Is this normal? or do I have 2 worn pumps? bearing clearances too big?
    Cold
    [IMG]
    Warm
    [IMG]

Getting more gorgeous every day!, bodykit, spots, spoiler, exhaust still to go on - beauty must be in the eye of the beholder
    [IMG]
Still hasn't been out the complex, hence the rusty 202 disks

Interesting question re: oil pressure. I don't know the answer but mine does the same as you described.
Great shot of that black Celica coolgleamA

    3S-GE, 3S-FE Oil pressure problem

White Celi - I have been "pampering her lately, she's waiting for the new bumper & spoiler,
gen2 exhaust, but lately has new tyres, door cards, bonnet, radio, speakers, rear silencer etc.
I'm hoping to respray her white soon as the paint isn't great (small dents & paint cracking up)

You guys are always welcome for a visit! spew crazy
At least we have lots to talk about and looks like we all enjoy the same music ohnoes crazy driving crazy ohnoes
TEMS still has 1/2 an exhaust and the neighborhood comes running, thinking there's a race car being warmed up
So just that sound alone is worth a plane ticket? bowdown - There's no turbo vanes to hold back the sound either!

Oil problem - Alwayz, yours is what one would normally expect. I think I already know the answer.
Thanks for shaking my memory - I think I now know why so many cars are losing big ends.

When I assembled the pump I used the best parts from 2 pumps which sounds good but, when I tried to charge
the engine statically with a belt on the pump, there was nothing coming through.
Eventually I filled the pump and the gallery with oil from the filter hole and when I put a drill on the pump,
it took a while before squirting oil all over the car from the exposed cam gallery (no head fitted).
Which means the pump clearances aren't correct and hopefully will wear in after a while because
I know the bearings are good. I've fitted 25 tooth gen2 oil pulleys, so the pressure should be higher as well?

Projects on hold at the moment are:
Smaller alu pulley - slows down alt & P/S, more power to the gearbox & longer lasting alt bearings & P/S pump
    [IMG]
Alu rad pipes - no more pipes popping! & you can add sensors, pipes etc
    [IMG]
    Any takers?

Celica Graphix for sale!, Custom Vinyls

    Spot the graphix?
Went for a stealth look on the car, matte black vinyl on the gloss black body. It can only be seen at certain angles & lights
    [IMG]
The GT-R logo is aimed at the nissan boys, they had no right to steal it in the 1st place

This is what it looks like in direct light
    [IMG]

The first set I cut in silver, but they were waaay too bright, so tried this approach
Oxi later pointed out the Celica logo should be 50mm high, not 70 like the JDM's but it suits me fine for now

The joys of having your own vinyl cutter means doing what you want, however you want, when you want
No job too big or small

Finally got round to re-furbing the rear brakes, guess why I couldn't bolt up the
    wheels properly?
This side bolted up, but mild steel studs are not the way to go!

Tems finally inherits an exhaust system and a towbar, towbar is to keep other cars out the boot and for towing more Celi's home
    [IMG]

Front end stripped down for rustproofing, lightening (note those stupid heavy 5mm plates are gone),
spots & some aerodynamic tweeking to come -Any ideas what those plates were meant for?

Here's an evolution of what Alwayz did to his intake - & time for the air filter to start earning it's keep!
HP air from the grille area is now fed directly into the bottom of the intake pipe,
this hole will be getting a lot larger, yes there is an intake behind the headlight, it's small and obstructed.
An extra HP air feed can't hurt?
You can see the rust that was forming under those plates I removed

This mod won't work on FE models - on mine the air box pipe only runs to the battery somewhere
    [IMG]

I'm still trying to find an engine cleaner here that actually works, I have a HP steam cleaner but
it sure doesn't look like it

Front bumper removal, skin removal, lightening & ideas

Tried to remove my front bumper skin - no f/n chance!, the bolts and nuts are all so rusted they
either crumble or snap clean off. This is going to be a major mission to refurb/modify the front bumper ack2

Here's a few kg removed already, plus you can see the problem with rusted bolts.
The front beam weighs a ton, any cutting or drilling will have to be done very scientifically.
I had to remove the loops to make room for the new spots, which is proving much more difficult than I thought it would be.
New tow loop will be mounted below the front engine mount

haha i remember pulling the reo from the skin on the rear bar ended up with stitches in my middle finger from when the bolt let go and cought the reo.
had a flesh flap over my knuckle for about 3 hrs til i washed it and realised ho bad it was lol.

Strange sump plug, Magnetic plug won't fit?

Alwayz - I tried using one of the spare bumpers but they are both in worse condition, I drilled & tapped
the holes so all's good - apart from several wasted hours.
It's all been rustproofed, new bolts etc, so should be good for the next 20yrs.

Rev - get used to it, wait till you assemble motors, don't think I've ever assembled one without cutting myself

I'm getting REEAALLYY hacked off with this motor, I bought one of those magnetic sump plugs as the
existing plug is leaking & non-magnetic.
When I went to swap them I find that this damn freak motor has a larger sump
    plug (24mm).

I checked the 2 spare motors and the FE and all are the smaller type (14mm) - WTF!!!

cool, got love tap an die sets, life savers.
As you say its only man hours. I guess I have been lucky with all the bumpers I have taken off!!

Re the almost never ending story of different parts on the TEMS car, I can only sympathise, just does not make sense.
