Hi I managed to get a replacement front grille so I changed that over today I also picked up some lovely new wheels... Ben
I do not know much about british 4gen convertibles, but it seems different from german made ones. Not targa, but more conventional one-piece soft top like US verts. Is it a powered or manual top?
Those wheels look sooo nice. Gunmetal grey? Along with a ring painted red? Your car is gonna look 10x times better with those minor upgrades. A very worthy investment. :cheers
Ok Ben. German-made 4gen convertible was based on the liftback, the US one was based on the coupe. It's why the soft-top system and shape is totally different between the two models.
Massive thanks to Rich for his help last weekend changing my radiator, oil filter and oil. What came out was not good... Next job...new wheels on...
:shock ....... Good pics Ben, the best example of how NOT to treat a car, what a mess....... how's that filter, I'v never seen anything like it and someone here once said 'keep water green and oil gold' :shock ....... But hey, I love putting new stuff on a new car :cool With all cars I buy I like to start fresh so I replace the oil and filter, and again in a week or and maybe even again in a month or so, it depends. I digress here but when I bought this Celi I also had to replace the dizzy cap, rotor button, plugs and leads, and this is a car that has had more than regular log book services...... please explain toyota :aargh
please to help Ben. Next time leads, plugs, cap, rotor arm and fuel filter to do. We are gonna rin that oil only for a couple of k, they change again with filter as I think that the oil will dirty very quickly due to lack of changes before. the 3sge lump runs very sweet. Coolant was fun, lots of bubbles and froth, but rad was a nice fit. All good fun working on a gen 4 again, tis a pleasure.
Good to see you lads working together and YES......... It's worth the money to do the oil and filter a couple of times...... keep water green and oil gold...... Aussie Aussie Aussie oi oi oi..... :mrgreen
If it's black under the rocker covers you may need to run engine flush a few times before the oil stays clean. I'd be flushing the water system a few times too, that looks nasty. If only people realised what damage that causes, it may be slow but it sure is thorough
:mrgreen ...... Love hot choc, not in my engine tho. What do you mean by 'engine flush' ?, ie..... doing what, using what ?
Radiator and engine flush - put them in before you drain and helps to break down rust, carbon etc On motors like this it's important to remove the hoses and thermostat and blow the rad, block, heater clean with a water hose. The oil needs a couple of hours to drain, amazing what gets left behind so I always waste a litre of fresh oil to "chase" out old oil - what comes out should be clean Never used the red stuff to be honest, olde skoole me is happy with what I know works
Really need a new stat to flush properly, as I am betting the old one will be jiggered when we take it off. Its work in progress really, Ben's car was prev owned by someone who liked shiney painting stuff, but neglected the mechanics. Will do a further change again soon. Re flushes, I urge caution, some of the flushes can sometimes do more harm than good with old engines, both the older engines I flushed lead to issues with blocked oil ways and one had by coincedene a failure of the oil pump. if the crap is not out with the flush, it maybe moved and in a place that can cause problems.
