Help me find source of clacking

Well, I sorted out a bunch of noises so far recently, have various parts repaired / replaced, and I'm quite satisfied with the car now, but I have one more noise that's going on my nerves for a long time now. If I could solve that one more, I'll be as happy with the car as never before. So, I'm asking for your help and advice on this.

I hear this metalic clacking noise when going over smaller bumps, so when the suspension is pressed quickly. I tried to push the front end down while the car isn't moving, but I cannot produce that sound then. I hear it from the left front, but it could be because I sit on the left side, so it can be that it comes from other direction, but the front is sure.

The real problem is, that I have already changed literally ALL front suspension parts (I can wrote a list, maybe missed something), and it's still there. Every time I had a new idea, swapped the part, hoped it will disappear, and got disappointed. So it's either not coming from the suspension, or I missed something. I was thinking that some part got loose in the engine bay and clacks by itself somewhere I cannot see / didn't discover yet. Or, could it be the upper engine mount's bushings (or cushions as they say on EPC)?

    Any idea and help appreciated!

I'm getting that same clacking on the left side as well. Something like a lose bolt, nut, washer hitting metal? I don't know what it is either, but are you getting this type of sound?

Yes, it sounds kind of that.

    Noisy shocks

Check that all your shock bolts are tight, the top damper nut is under a rubber cover
    and can come loose.

Are the rubber cusions in good condition? nut is under this cover

Otherwise I'd suspect the spring seat rubbers - did you change them?
Did you grind off the sharp edges on your springs?

Here I stuck an inflator thru one of the holes

Grinding the sharp edges sothat it doesn't happen again

I've just checked the nuts, they are tight.
The spring seat rubbers were replaced last year, I was suspecting them too.

Is it a sharp or dull (muted) noise?
I had a mystery noise driving me crazy.
It turned out to be a broken exhaust bracket banging the underside of my car.

    It's rather sharp.
I've checked the exhaust too, and when we did the last mod a couple of weeks ago, we looked after that it's not touching anything.
Thanks for the idea though :)

The gen2/3 exhaust has cast iron brackets on the block, sometimes a bolt will
work loose and cause a clacking noise

Check the dust shields for your rotors, they can rattle around if they rust out to much.

i just figured out the worst one of mine....the #2 suspension arm in the rear. rearmost link running from the frame to the knuckle. theres about an inch of clearence between that arm and the pipe right behind the muffler. it actually taps the pipe if theres enough load on the suspension. like a 220lb guy jumping on it.

^What he said is very true; check it under some weight/compression of suspension.

    Stig: I'll check that.

    ST165-2765: I don't have the dust shields anymore :) (I use ST185 front brakes)

jwagner162 & Rick89GTS: Yea, mine does that too, if I go over big bumps or someone is sitting in the back, but this sound definately comes from the front, and it sounds completely different.

Ok, so here is the list that has been replaced (should have wrote it at the start of the topic :banghead )

    - swaybar to chassis mounts (front and rear)
    - endlinks (front and rear)
    - front control arm bushings (poliurethan)
    - driveshaft outer ends (CV joints)
    - wheel bearings
    - longer driveshaft holder bearing
    - ball joints
    - tie rods (inner and outer)
    - spring seat rubbers
    - top mounts (front and rear)

Shock absorbers were replaced 5 years ago to KYB GR2, I drove about 35.000kms since then, have tested them a month ago before MOT and they are all good (or can they still produce this sound?).

Thanks for all your replies and ideas so far guys, I really appreciate your time!
