    Thanks Steve for the confirmation.
mine when closing does stop halfway and you have to push the button again.
is that just a safety mechanism incase someone is still hanging out the roof lol.

so far the stereo and half the dash is apart in the car so i can fix the problem with the heater switch.
so until i get a few new parts work has halted on the car for now.

However ifi get a chance to i may pull interior apart from car and check for any other problems and maybe bugbomb the car as it is swarming with randoms bugs and spiders inside.

    Ok all.
here is a question for you.
i am wanting to keep this car as original as possible.
i am after just the pre facelift grey trim from the headlights eyelids.
and an original double din radio that came in the car with the wiring cut after the connection plugs so i can rewire it back into the car.

It looks like i may also have to make a new parcel shelf but try and make it to original specs to keep it a bit more authentic.

    Hi all.
just a small update today as i finally got to go out in the garage for a couple of hours and work on the car whilsth the kids were asleep and mrs was doing the tax lol.

I installed new dizzy cap and rotor button the old ones were cactus.
then i decided it was time to do an oil change on the car as it was black and horrible looking so after much stuffing around with trying to get the oil filter off and pulling stuff off to get to it i finally finished and it seems to be a lot better with starting up and no longer blowing black watery fluid out the arse end from the carbo build up.

i am now waiting for a new set of cv joints to arrive as underload whilst turning the car it makes a lot of clicking noises and the boots of the cv joints are broken and have a lot of crap built up inside.

anyways after i did all that i decided to have som time alone in the shed and played a couple of rounds of darts with myself and got a lot worse the more i played.

    Cheers lone wolf.
    I dont get
Much time to work on the car with the 2 kids awake during the day and night time atm is too cold for me to work on the cars with my osteoarthritis.

As for the time alone after i posted it i was waiting for someone to chime in thinking something different.lol
i usually leave the garage door open and have my 50's rockabilly music playing.

And got in trouble with the mrs for using the electric door of the garage as a mouth on the garage and doing my peter griffin impersonation and yelling bring me a toolshed for i am hungry whilst pulling the door up and down lol.

    Any tiPs with cv joints?

I feel you... I'm unemployed but my wife works fulltime (hospital as a nurse so also weekends) and I only have time when she is at home for my cars...or maybe when the boy is asleep, otherwise...he needs and likes my attention :).

How old is your little one? my eldest has just turned 2 and i'm trying to slowly introduce him to tools and cars.
he has been able to start our family car since the age of 16months (not by anyone teaching him but him watching us when we would start the car)

I'm just glad my boss has let me put my apprenticeship on hold for the next 6 months to regain my health and be with my family.

    Cheers trel
i am going to print this out so i dont need a laptp near me when i do this.
It's pretty detailed so i hopefully won't get stuck lol.

Here is an update for you all with a couple of pics.
new dizzy cap installed here is pics of old one and rotor button they were pretty worn.

Now i installed a new second hand fuel guage sender is there anything someone can see wrong with the old one in this picture? lol
    [IMG]

Next up is i need help on finding out if the headgasket is on the way out
this was underneath the oilcap after i changed the oil over and cleaned the cap up.
there is a lot of air coming out if i remove the oil cap whilst engine is running but no oil or substances spitting onto my hand and there is now no more gunk under the cap since i have cleaned it.
If i remove both the rocker covers to replace the gaskets is there anything i should look out for to help me diagnose that the headgasket has gone?

Here is the wheel arch strip i have repaired also just needs a bit of a cleanup but i'm glad all 4 are on the car.

18months is the fun age as they absorb soo much and the quicker you teach them the faster they can help you with things.

Here is today's update on the car.
I decided to go outside and give myself a time limit by the way so this wasn't a whole day spent on the car [IMG]

I thought it would be a good idea to remove the front guards only for realigning the doors and also to have a guard pane lbeated by rob (who doesn't quite know yet)

anyways here is pics as a thread with pics is heaps more exciting.

I also went out again last night to tinker in the engine bay to take off the cam covers to see if there was any milky gunk underneath them to help me solve if there is a blown headgasket (needed to check as under the oil cap there was white gunk)
i cleaned the oil cap and ran the car again for 15mins then turned off the car and the gunk was there again which is what made me thing it was blown oor on the way out.
anyways here is 3 pics of what was under the cam covers.

I recently fixed a head gasket by myself, (i'm 16) and i knew it was out because when you drive the car you can hear the water running through it, and there should be water in the oil on the photos you just posted

Steve, it's amazing how much we all try and get our kids into cars (especially celicas) and i do get worried at time if it does rub off on my kids my poor wife would have no kids inside the house but both outside getting dirty and grimey from working on the cars lol.

cheers for the advice i havent checked further into as of late as been unable to do anything with the cars with both kids needing full time attention and me being absolutley stuffed at night time lol.
But i do now know it doesnt have a blown gasket as theres no water loss or water in oil i think its just all condensation from the car not being started in ages.

Anyways i will be posting up shortly if i can find the info of what i have recently done to my cars lol

Well here is another update for you all.
i removed the driveshafts to start the slow process of fixing the cv joints.
anyways as i read up on it i wanted to empty the gearbox fluid 1st and make sure it was empty....however
i kept getting side tracked with my 2 boys and began pulling things apart then when i finally pulled the 1st driveshaft out fluid was flowing everywere.
then i said to myself jimmy you forgot to empty the gearbox ya god damn noob.

in the end i just let it all flow out as i had towels under the car and thought the amount of time it would take me to get a bucket it would be pointless.
anyways here are some pics of the drive shafts in my next post

    cheers sean,
i am looking at giving the driveshafts a go this weekend and the mrs said she will help me work on the car as she wants to learn.
i worked on the old girl yesterday and installed a new clutch slave cylinder and a new thermostat the way i see it even if i fix just minor things its a step closer to getting back on the road
