    Hi all.
Just before my wedding my wife casey said i can buy another celica for myself for parts on my car.
So i found one i had my eye on for a while now and spoke to the lady who owned it at least once a month for 4 months before my wife said go for it.

Anyways i am now the second owner of the car and the lady i bought it off bought it in 1986 for $35,500 was what she told me.
it has a unrusted fully functional sunroof a second gen1 jap 3sge installed after her 1st one spun a big end bearing in early 2000.

it is all straight bodywork aside from a dint in the drivers front quarter panel and some rust starting around the windshield.
the passenger side quarterpanel has clearcoat peeling off and the rest of the car still has original silver mouldings and gold striping down the whole car without any spots missing.
it was a garaged car up until 6months ago when she bought a new car so all the stuff that is happening now is only because of no more garaged car :(

anyways here is a fair few shots of it.
    hope you like.
plans are to restore back to original and leave as original.

Thanks guys. Im glad i foubd this car. Jusr cant beleive hiw good of condition it is in.
Having a stock model next to my car would a great combination.
One thing i would be after is an original radio for the car to make it almost 100% original.

Wow, looks great. Good plan on the resto, it's too nice to strip! This is exactly what I want to do when I finish my car, find another in reasonable nick, do a full factory-spec resto then put it on club plates.

    Cheers guys.
The keypad is an alarm system that was installed in the car in the early 90's and still going strong and very loud.
Well i was lucky with my wife before we got married she k ew i had my eye on this car and she said well soend your money before we get married as it's still yours lol.
And she k es how bad i wanted another 4th gen even if it was for parts.

Well i got to work on the car a bit today. I had never heard the car running so i washed it quickly with a sponge and bucket.
Checked all fluids in the car and needed oil so i topped that up.
Had to charge up the battery as it was flat as a tac.
After all that i tried to start the car. And forgot about the alarm and sure enough it went off.
So i cut the wire to the siren whilst i worked on the car again.
The car still refused to start and in the end i couldnt figure it out so i pulled the alarm system off incase that was draining the power.
Still wouldnt start however the thermo fans turn on and stay on by themselves.
After much stuffing around it turned out the car wouldnt start because the damn air flow meter wasnt plugged in.

Car sounds nice and doesnt miss a beat but brakes are a bit spongey so will bleed them when i can. And same as the clutch.
When drivin it up and down driveway it would shudder violently which the woman told me was because her mechanic said it was because the engine mounts had gone in the car. After i checked those only 1 has gone so i checked the intake pipe.
Splits everywhere in the pipe so i taped it all up and no more shuddering.

looks like the old lady was scammed into a new car by her mechanic... Luckily you were around to pick up that celica :) lol

Nice find ! Always the case, you buy a car thinking of breaking it and end up keeping it and restoring it. Great garage you got there, you have the same dustbins as in the UK.

same thing happened with my 2nd celica, it was shuddering especially in first gear, turns out when the motor rocks slightly back and the intake accordion hose gets stretched, the AFM turns off the car momentarily until the accordion hose sort of seals back up. duct tape and it's good!

had the same, duct tape is a great temp solution :)

yes it seems the womans mechanic wanted more cash from her or he actually had no idea about 4th gens like most mechanics over here lol.
the only person who knows their car is the one who owns one and drives it on a daily basis.
i'm just glad i was allowed to purchase this car and am now looking at a possible donor car for these cars if i can get it for the right preics ( yes it's another maroon one) lol

    Cheers matt.
i have spotted this one and is in my watch list on ebay but am waiting for a few new goodies for my other celica to arrive before i decide to buy another hose as i may be getting a custom intake pipe made up for mine.
cheers steve. it's not every day you come across something as close to original.
the only problem is with me if i see a celica and its close to the right price and i want it i will try my hardest to get it at a good price and haggle a bit this car was originally selling for $875aud and then after a couple of months went to $500aud then i emailed the lady and said i will purchase the car sight unseen for $450 if you allow me to pay it off and she said i can have it for $400 as it will cost me about $50 to hire a trailer.

As for the dustbins we have a small green one hiddedn in the garage for our general waste the blue lid we share 3 between 6 units for recycling and red bins are the same but used for gardening waste.
if we lived in a proper house we would have one of each for ourselves so in a unit the bins fill up quick.

it gets frustrating as my other celica did the same thing and trying to limp the damn thing home in peakhour traffic is frustrating.
im just glad i had learnt the 1st time already to fix it quicker and save some $ on the way.

So i decided to go out this morning and check to see if the car starts up as i was unsure if battery is holding charge due to having no fluid in the battery.

after a top up and a charge overnight it sem the car holds charge and starts up.

i am starting it up each time i go out to the shed to make sure it is holding charge.

    everything seems fine so far.

here are afew pics of car and things that need attention or have been fixed over the last couple of days.

With the sunroof i have a question for you guys with one.
does it go higher up than in the pic or is that correct?
and same as how far open does it open that far only or is it meant to completly disappear into the roof?

my ghetto repair of intake hose

still, all in all a good buy ! all those things are fixable, if the engine is A-ok and little rust it's a good car !

    fiynix87 Well-Known Member Donated!

    yes a great buy.
i wish i could spend as much time during the day outside working on the car and had some money to fix it up a bit quicker so i can cruise around in it.
only decision now is if i do keep it for myself do i rego it on club plates or proper registration which means a yearly cos of roughly $700aud.

Sunroof looks fine and correct positions. When you operate it to slide, does it stop halfway and then you have to depress the button again ? If so, again it's normal.
