    your question earlier. yes the trans has ATF in it. works great when it's new. it's not. change it with the syncromesh.

    :p I use/used a metal coat hanger to hold my caliper up. Works great, can still use it afterwards to hang your clothes back up. :mrgreen:

    Been a few weeks since my last update:

    Shelf has been running worse than shit last few days and all pointed to not charging the battery enough and not holding a charge.

    1. Car wasn't starting/turning over.
    2. My CD player would randomly turn off and back on over and over if my volume was past a certain point (assuming it was taking more power than the car could spare).
    3. At random times, my RPM would be all over the place, sitting in neutral they would hit 2,200... not normal. Also would eventually stall, very slowly... lol.

    Here's what was done:

    - Replaced alternator (had a BOSCH taken from the parts car... worked)
    - Rebuilt the starter (the contacts were pretty worn down... friend of mine installed the new contacts and other hardware for me)
    - New battery (still had the original from 4 years ago when I bought Shelf, and it was already old and should had been replaced then, heh...)

    SO FAR... I took the long way home from Mom's driveway after my friend helped me out (thanks!)... no battery light, and no check engine light... just my e-brake light that can be fixed by adding more fluid.

    Its now time to warm the car before I drive it. Getting cold out. Usually when I park the car, the fan is still going to cool off the engine, it doesn't turn on anymore... could it be cold enough outside to keep the engine from getting hot enough for the fan to turn on? lol?

    Also, im going to take some pics later today... have some leaks and have no idea what whats up heh

    edit: looks like i have some kind of antifreeze issue to deal with... not sure what it is just yet

    With the motor running and a strong light, try to see where it's coming out of. Use a mirror if you have to. Check the t-stat housing and that water hard line in the top pic to eliminate those sources.

    It may look it from those pics, but my engine doesn't have too much rust. Its the dried up coolant leaving those yuky marks.

    I herd some negative things about not using OEM stuff, that cheeper stuff doesn't last... anyone have experiences with non-OEM gaskets n stuff?

    Depends on what it is. I've used non-OEM on easy-to-access stuff, but for something like the HG, I'd be inclined to go OEM, unless it's an established, reputable company.

    Truth be told, many OEM parts are actually aftermarket with the Toyota
    stamp/sticker/packet

    It only means those parts have been tested and approved by the manufacturer to be
    equal or better than anything they can manufacture.

    Most manufacturers do it and in many cases the good aftermarket versions are
    actually better than OEM.

    Moral is: Buy cheap - pay more in the long run!

    Big name brands have reputations to protect and are constantly striving to improve their products
