    Thanks man!

Actually I have thought about lowering the car a tad. But not sure how to do it :S Besides I kinda like the height its at.

I clean my car so much its not even funny. Once a week without fail top to bottom. The whole front end is from an '86 hatch, had to move over everything and had custom brackets made, could be why it looks different. I get a lot of looks in this Pavement Princess cause shes so damn hawt hahaha

OK here's the update on my beast. Most important to lesser importance... but It all has to be done SOON.

    1. Fix my hub/axel thing. Apparently its not just the ball bearing :( Car sounds like its screaming in pain while driving.
    2. Power steering pump is leaking or a line is leaking around it... figured its time to swap the one from my '86 parts car if its not leaking as well.
    3. Found out recently that I have an after market frost plug and its leaking antifreeze. Could someone post how I could fix that? Cause its hidden behind my exhaust manifold... :(
    4. Paint the trim black!

The dealership quoted me 1100 dollars labor/parts to fix the axel/hub and the power steering pump. Looks like l'll be doing it myself :(

    1. Take care of the wheel bearing asap, otherwise it'll ruin the hub and that's more $$. That's what happened to mine: http://www.celicatech.com/forums/showth ... el+bearing
[If the link doesn't show, do a SEARCH under "Wheel Bearings" by Rick89GTS]

I pulled off my steering knuckle (89GTS) to check the wheel bearings.
First, I was surprised that the inner race came out by hand, that ain't good:

There was some wiggle room, so I pulled off the hub, again, by hand..uh-oh :( :

    2. I would not recommend using an old PS hose simply b/c they are prone to leaking and it's a pain to get to. You don't want a used one with unknown history. Here's my write-up: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=3788

    3. CAUTION: Keep an eye on it and your coolant gauge! I had the same issue on my back-facing freeze plug. My aftermarket plug popped out, dumped all my new coolant and my car almost overheated. You're lucky yours is the front plug. You'll still have to take a bunch of shit off to reach it. I used a rubber expansion plug, worked liked a charm and cheap and easy too.

how is that rubber thing holding up rick?
since that leaking plug is on the front of the block i would get a new freeze plug and mechanics tar and pound it in there. should be to horrible being on the front.

Mafix, yes I agree and should clarify: if you can reach it, go with regular freeze plug. The rubber expansion plug is holding up well, but I check it every so often just in case. I would have done a regular freeze plug but mine was on the backside and it's next to impossible to reach it without removing the engine.

    ::::::23.8.2009 UPDATE::::::

What do you get when you have a Plumber and a PC Tech working on a car...

The Crarey Brothers (Matt and I) replaced the hub today successfully! It was a smooth removal and installation... check out the pics! They explain themselves! *Read the Attachment Comments*

Lots of pics! I had a blast!

I didn't bother taking a picture of the car after cause it looked the same as before... but I did drive her to the self car wash and had a good time cleaning up there. All in all it was a freakin awesome day.

BTW - I drove to Great Canadian Oil change, I trust these guys.. they looked at my trans fluid and noticed ATF was used... I asked if it were different for manuals, he checked his computer and ATF was correct. However, it was too full, they drained some out to where they would normally fill it to. When I left the shop and shifted into third like normal I herd a grind, but after that I haven't herd a grind shifting into or out of third gear. Any ideas? Problem solved?

Nice job Jake. I wouldn't worry about the gear crunch unless it happens a lot. Even then, you only recourse is to replace or rebuild the tranny so most guys live with it.

Just one question, I didn't see a torque wrench, did you torque the lock nut to spec? It's 137 ft lbs. Did you swap out the entire knuckle, hub or did you replace the wheel bearings only? [Disregard the red circle below]

Thanks man! Replaced the knuckle, except for the Disc Rotor... it was still in good shape. Toyota diagnosed the CV joints were damaged, but they looked damn fine to me lol And no, we tightened the nuts as much as we could for now. Did a rotation before going for a quick drive to do my long awaited errands, going to a shop for an alignment in a couple days... didn't have the torque wrench this time, unfortunately.

Yeah, swapping the knuckle is the easiest way to go. I'll be coming out for your 87GTS knuckle next week sometime... :)
