Re: 86 GT-S ill have to see what its like w/o the mudflaps, and yeah i really do need some nice 15 inch wheels and good tires, but they're so expensive! im trying to find some nice ones on craigslist though.
Re: 86 GT-S i like smaller rims, anything over 16 is too big , kinda just depends on the car i guess...but the reason i want 15's is because my stock rims are 14's, with a 205/60/14 tire and its about 3/4 inch away from rubbing, so if i go up to 16...ill definately have problems, even with a low pro tire. so im gonna get 15's with like 205/50 size tires or maybe 205/45.
Re: 86 GT-S Yeah I have to agree; I like smaller rims too. I'm in search of 15's that are wide and will stick out of the wheel wells more than the original rims. Which number on the rim do I look at that will show how far it'll stick out?

Re: 86 GT-S you have to be careful though, its not easy to find wheels for our cars (cheap and that look good) coz not many use our pcd, only really subaru wich have a fairly different offset. You can always use wheel spacers, im gunna be chukcing some on my rears also if your thinking theyl scrub thatl be due to your wheel alighnment for than anything. At the moment i have my 15" rims on with 205,55's (my 16s are bald and dangerous lol). My supspemsion is completely rooted my car actually sits lower than one with super lows in it and i have no trouble with scrubbage. On a hard turn with them on i used to get a lil bit at the front but nothing a heat gun, rag and a rubber mallet cant fix Also look at the side wall some differ incredibly in how horizontal they are which of coarse increases scrubbage. i find 15's are fine in genreral but depending on the style (some look alot smaller than others due to spoke design) but once you start lowering it the wheels become more of a focus point and being higher up in the wheel well deisplays more clearly that its not filing it. Thats my opinion anyway and sorry for that being so long lol either way rims are a must haha
Re: 86 GT-S Ah thanks. Yeah I knew that the 15x"7" meant width, just didnt know how to tell if the wheels would have a deep lip or not. Thanks for the heads up.
Re: 86 GT-S yeah deeper the lip, lower the offset. 0 offset would be the inside of the wheel (the design part) is in the center of the entire rim, so the lip is big, and after that it goes into negative offset
Re: 86 GT-S 7" only tells you what size tires to fit, not where the rim will sit - that diagram shows the factors you need to take into account. Here's some handy calculators to make life easier: Rim/Offset calculator http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp Tyre size calculator/comparison http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp Best advice I can give is to "try before u buy". Dished rims are getting harder to find but they are out there There are some really nice Audi, Scooby, VW rims that will fit, but you'll only know by putting them on Avoid the urge to fit the widest tyres around, they use more fuel, rub more because they move around more, etc
Re: 86 GT-S got the springs on the front yesterday, it looks good, but unfortunately rub's around corners if i take them quick...that kinda dissapointed me cause now i have to get my fenders rolled. also got a new battery and alternator...anyways heres some pics!:
Re: 86 GT-S wow that 1st pic looks so low!!!!!!!! if your game you could attack your front guards with a rubber mallet and if you have inner guards(plastic) could chop them or remove them all together. If you go at the lip with the hammer try and do it on quite a hot day so the paints warm or use a hair dryer on the pain (heat guns to hot) and tap away, the trick is light overlapping strokes. i did mine on a warm day so and had no problems and stopped all scrubbage looking sweet!
Re: 86 GT-S yeah the first pic actually shows how low it really is, the back wheels are tucked into the wheel well...yet it doesnt rub, just the fronts ><. yeah i kinda wanna use a fender roller though, just to reduce the chances of me screwing it up..
Re: 86 GT-S HOLY SH** BATMAN...your car looks freaking awesome when it's lowered. I seriously have to lower mine very soon. Keep up the great work bud! Tanner.
Re: 86 GT-S haha thanks. i kinda wish i didnt go so low though, it looks cool but it is rubbing to much. and im gonna have to look up how to roll my fenders properly because i cant even take it for a fun drive because the rubbing...
Re: 86 GT-S i don't get it. why do you guys rub tires? mine is stupid low and i have never had an issue.
Re: 86 GT-S ur fender flares give you a lot more room, ur suspension is probably stiffer than most of ours cause ur agx's and other stuff.. and i have stock 205/60 tires, big tire wall ><
Re: 86 GT-S The front arches have no real lip to get rolled so to speak. We did a bit but it hard to gain much space What we did to stop the rubbing. Took out the clips and screws for the inner guard that are along the inside of the arch curve. "Gently" pulled the arch forward Heated the plastic of the arch guard with a heat gun and then re moulded it slightly. this all allowed me to run with out rubbing on the track, so fingers crossed should help. Car looking nice n low btw damn tidy engine bay too.
Re: 86 GT-S got some new fogs, and solved my rubbing by removing my inner fender gaurds and forcing the fenders out a little(not noticeable really), but im definately happy. heres some pics:
Re: 86 GT-S nice, keep the updaates flowing? off topic whats the white car in the back ground as i glanced past for a second i thought your neighbours had an NSX lol
