to buy or not to buy......

    i can buy this for $500, guy says it just needs new motor. (he blew the last one trying to drift.) needs some paint and the bondo jobs need to be checked but pretty mint interior/exterior.

    thinking about getting this as my project car and trying to swap in a 3s-gte :twisted:

    also anyone know how hard it is to replace an mr2 motor. I know its gonna be a PITA due to room.

    omg my dream autocross car ;p why 3sgte when u can 4agze alot easier? ;p looks like a good project but itll get pricy, 3 or 4 hundred would be better haha

    3sgte in those cars is wicked fast and it isn't that hard as long as you get the mounting kit from Speed Source. I say go for it! (I don't think I'd pay 500 for that though)

    talk him down to like 2 or 3 hundred. I've seen clean 240sx shells go for 100-200 bucks!

    okay as of tomorrow morning I will be the proud owner of a 1988 MR2!!! :twisted: (with a blown 4age NA motor) :(

    I am going to pay him $500 for the car, reason being is interior is very clean, exterior isnt bad, the seller is just a teenager (who is attending high school and going to an automotive college nearby *via a scholarship*) plus he is letting me make 2 payments of $250 which makes it easier on me $$ wise :)

    oh and it has a rock solid suspension unlike the blarg monster who wobbles, (and the blarg monster is $400+- for a new suspension (struts/shocks)) so i figure that its worth that much.

    yeah blown motor, who knows what body work, i'm sure the suspension is stock, should i go on?
    did you guys know people give these cars away on MR2OC?
    300 is a good price but nothing higher unless you can drive it.

    they do? for a while before I found this forum I was considering buying a guys N/A 86 MR2, but I didnt have the money at the time. The motor was old so I was gonna go for a supercharged swap and drive my Celi while I was doing it.

    supercharger swap is pointless. do the mk1.5 swap if you are goign to swap a mk1

    so a 3S-GTE in an MKI? hmm well they are lighter IIRC, which means I could beat my buddies MKII (in theory anyways). Meh either way I want to finish my Celi first, maybe I'll find one as a winter project for next year. Although I dunno what the point in owning 2 sports cars is. And I love my Celi too much to sell it. Maybe I'll just build up a nice GTE and put that in the Celica :D

    haha sorry, I love MR2's and I would love a RWD car, but I have plans for my 4g and they're definately rarer around here. being able to pull a Mafix on people would defiantely be run too :twisted:

    IMO I don't like the look of the MKI s MR2 I would pass it up. I would go for an MKII
