    Hi there

I've just joined this forum and was wondering if anyone can tell me how to get the rubber trim off that runs down the side of the car, I think it usually black rubber.

I don't want to make a mess of the panel trying to get it off.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

sticky tape on the outside makes it look foogly when you take it off... if you want to take it off for looks you're gonna have to sand the gunk off and repaint the car... just warning you...

    Thanks for the reply Letze

I'm actually doing a panel swap and the trim is a different colour, so I want to swap the trim over on the panels so it will match the rest of the car.

I want to remove the trim keeping both the panel and trim in as good condition as possible.

I don't really want to use a flat bladed screw driver :(

unless you're magic its not gonna come off easy, you can probably get it off with a good flat razer blade (cut off)

    heat would probably help too.

I seem to recall that I had rather good luck soaking it in various chemicals as I worked. Namely stuff like gunk off. Basically adhesive removers. I managed to get mine off in one piece, not really attempting to. What you do, is soak the top edge, over and over again, and let it soak in for a few hours. Keep it wet as it absorbs in (with the gunk spray, not water).

Then start scraping it off with a steel scraper. When you get down to a section that isn't easy to work, keep spraying in and soak it. Basically work top down, not lengthwise.

    It will take forever.

I'd suggest using a hard plastic scraper so you don't mess up your paint....

    Thanks everyone for your advice.

I think it might just be easier to paint the strip to match, my car is painted super white (40), so it shouldn't be that hard to match it up.

maybe, but if you ever scrape it you'll have to touch it up again....

The BGB recommends a heat gun and a putty knife wrapped with protective tape, ie masking tape.

I got the trim off my panel. :D

Didn't have a heat gun so I used a hairdryer, and a plastic putty scraper.

Came off nicely didn't damage the paint work at all.

Thanks again for your advice guys!
