Group Picture Picked out a few shots and uploaded them to walmart and picked them up a couple hours later. The guy was originally asking $800 then he droped his price to $600 so I negotiated with him and gave him $700. Even got a Blaupunkt stereo with it. Overall its probably in better shape that the GTS hatchback I got and I paid $1000 for that rust bucket.
Yeah well I'm not complaining hehe With the amount of salt we use over here I consider every Celica I find to potentially be the last local one I will find so I'm creating a stockpile of them so I'll have some to work on in the future. After that I'll have to start importing them from the states. Well I'm counting on you racing guys to help me out. My first question is what are these little clips called. Are there any good racing sites where I could find parts like these clips ?
I think they are Duez style clips, let me see if I can find you some more info. This place maybe able to help http://autobodyclips.com/index.php and amazing project, it will be amazing! coolgleamA
Well neither can I, I'd like to have it finished tomorrow but ....even if I could start tomorrow theres probably almost as much planning and design work as there will be in actual physical work. I'd imagine most of the panels will be done in fiberglass. There will definetly be some differences most minor like the roof. I'm not going to cut the back of the roof just to get that seam in there. This one small detail leads me to believe that they must have actually used a hatchback roof and modified the rear pillar from the roof down to the back of the car and used modified coupe side windows and back window. But when you get to the back of the car its got coupe taillights so I don't know but it definetly looks like a hatchback roof. I'm also not a really big fan of the rear spoiler. I much prefer the GTS hatchback spoiler. But with the exception of the spoiler the remainder of the car should look pretty close to the IMSA version.
ya i c what you mean about the back roof, would be such a pain to fab... i think you out of anybody will have no problem in getting it done!!!
ok i think you are the 1st and most genuine case of a 4th gen addict. i believe you should go on medication and seek theorapy. But not until you complete this kick ass project lol Big task youv set yourself i dont envy all the measuring and moulding your going to have to do but when its done its gonna be epic man. best of luck with it!
I used to think they raced both bodies - till now! This must be an early pic? Those clips are available from "Kit car magazine" and all good Motorsport suppliers. There's one at Silverstone and the Minshaw's in UK stock that type of stuff, Alwayz can help there as I forget the names.
Heres a better picture of the clip in question which is "C" I have found some that could do for type "A" And I have found some like type "B" that use an alen key to fasten But if type "C" is a Dzus fastener then I have not found that yet.
The push n twist is the Dzus fastener - popular on bikes, sprintcar panels etc Not sure what the name is of the clasp type and I don't have my UK catalogs to look it up
And why have you changed your mind? They did race 2 cars each year (#'s 98 & 99) from 1986-1989. It looks to me like 1 coupe #98 & 1 hatchback #99. Now they may have switched to the All Trac chasis in 1988 but it would not have been available for the 1986 or 87 seasons so I think it is likely they raced 1 coupe & 1 hatchback. #98 clearly has coupe taillights and as you can see in the following pic #99 has hatchback taillights. Sorry about the crappy picture but I only have 3 pictures of #99.I've got about 50 pics of #98. Heres the other #99 pics And a group pic with the #99 being closely followed by #98 I don't know what years any of the pics are. Got any more pics of #99 especially the back of the car. I think I'm glad I'm going to IMSA a coupe cause it looks to me like they kind of did a butcher job on the back end of the hatchback due to the wrap around taillights. But they did a pretty decent job on the back end of the coupe.
If it was raced as a RWD I suspect they had access to the Alltrak chassis from the start I'd love to see some motor/box pics Interesting, the decals are different in every pic which suggests many different panels, also the roof line looks elongated at the rear compared to a normal coupe Unfortunately I don't have pics and the series wasn't given exposure outside N/America, we got to see Trans Am, Indy, CART, NASCAR, Barber Dodge. In Africa it would have run with Sierra Cosworth's, Mazda 3 rotor MX6's, Audi Quattro's etc
alltracs exsisted in 86. and that engine post is wrong. it's a 16 valve not an 8. i'm sure they are both alltrac chassis. just more appealing to buyers to have both.
I've never seen any pics of the engine in the car. All I've got is 3 pics of a display engine in the background of some of the other shots.
