This fuel filter is a real pain, I've still got mine in a box as the mechanic would'nt even attempt it :sad

I've sucked with mine too when we changed the rusty fuel lines. It was tight as hell, and just wouldn't stop leaking when we reassembled it.

Did you stick with the old 24 year old fuel line? Damn that is is ridiculous, what's with these fuel lines so tight?
Did you change the whole line? Man, that's unbelievable

I changed all lines that are going to the rear section (fuel & brake) because they were quite badly rusted :S

Damn. Did you go to the scrapyard or buy new ones? Was the installation difficult?

I bought all new ones. Wasn't cheap but now I won't have to change them for another 20 years :)
It wasn't hard but it took almost a day. The bolts that are holding the lines' brackets and the protectors need to be cared with extra caution as they can broke quite easily due to rust, better replace them with new ones. The fuel tank has to be lowered in order to replace the rear brake lines.

Even if your lines are in good condition, you still should check the protectors sometimes, because if they catch some mud that stays there and gets wet over and over again, your lines will be rusted more quickly.

WOOHOO Alexis is now running! After being out of commission for a little over a month for what felt like an eternity.

Just took her for a :driving , sweet pleasure. :cheers

The replacement wasn't too hard. But working without a lift is definately..annoying. haha

Although I thought the fuel filter replacement would help with the idling, it didn't help as much as I expected.
The thick oil I used is probably giving it a harder time to idling because it got worse after I changed it.
Gonna have to adjust the idling somehow. I know there's a little screw or whatever to adjust it. But I'm gonna look into it more. Any tips though anyone?

    Re: Hello from SoCal! Again!

Just a word for those that might be in my position.

    Fuel Line Replacement
Do not work anywhere dark and rush. I wanted to finish things right away and it turned out to be a mess.

-For the fuel line, I just went to the yards and grabbed one off of an ST Celica. I'm 99% sure any model with the S series engines will have the right fuel line size and bends etc.

-First of relieve the car of the fuel pressure. (I didn't do this . But nothing sprayed at me, suprisingly)

-To remove the fuel lines I used a 14mm wrench as well as a 3/4 wrench. Used the 3/4 to hold the larger nut and used the 14mm to turn. You can kinda turn the 3/4 the opposite way and make it easier on yourself. The nut is at the end of the line where it meets with the fuel tank hose. Remember to wear some eye protection, there still might fuel in there of course and will be dripping!

-Then I remove the anti-roll cross member bolts attached under the floor panel so I can have more clearance and remove the fuel line. But at the yards, the car was already off the floor and raised as well as the exhaust pipe removed so I had some ease in removing the tires and just unbolting the end links from the whole anti roll bar cross member without BENDING it.

-For YOUR car, just unbolt the anti roll cross member's bolts located under the floor panel.
I also blew the replacement fuel line with air using an air compressor. Then poured alcohol down, and blew air down it's pipery. And poured alcohol and did the same process about 4 times. Also cleaned the nuts on the fuel line with brake cleaner and cleaned them with a brush. Careful not to get anything except alcohol inside the fuel line.

-When that was done and sun dried. I put some white tape (any bright tape will do) on the nuts at both ends to keep dirt out while I installed it. Proceeded with the surgery for new arteries. Slip the fuel line in while under the car. Get it in between the anti roll bar cross member. At this point it's impossible to get the line in between the steering rack and fire wall. With the fuel line in between the floor pan and cross member, and your head full of frustration, all you have to do kinda turn the tip of the fuel line and put it UNDER the CV boot axle and voila. You are now in between the firewall and steering rack! Takes a bit of finesse and not too hard. Now you can organize the lines and put the covers back on, use your 3/4 and 14mm to secure the fuel tank hose together, install your fuel filter and peace of mind.

    UPDATE:

I'm finally ALMOST finished with the hood. Spray painted and it looks crappy.
I'm learning so, I'm not expecting an awesome paint job lol. But I guess I can live with it.

I bought some 2000 grit and used 600 grit that I still had left over.

First I tried using 2000 grit and used a polishing compound, just to see what it would do, knowing that would probably need to use the 600 first. And this is what it looks like.

And then 600 grit followed up with 2000.

    Here's the before picture:

    After:

Crappy job, but it's still shiny. I kinda rushed the middle part of the hood and you can see the unfinished wet sanding part of it. Probably needs a 1000 grit wet sand with 2k grit

Here's a crappy bumper rubber placement by some bodyshop. (The rear quarter got hit some time ago)\
Notice the rubber doesn't line up with the lines.

And here's an ST's rubber bumper thing with a lens. Now they line up.

Don't worry I just fitted the lens. The rubber, I just taped on, it will probably fall off with a gust of wind.
    Not too bad.
