So i went up to my storage and started pulling stuff off of the 2nd gen 3sge today to send away to get ceramic coated .So i pull the valve cover off the head and then see one of the cams are literally broken in half..leads me to the timing belt, its snapped..most likely, I'm gonna need a head replacement or in the least a good head rebuild. Does anyone have a source of where i can find oem or performance valves, seat, springs, lifters, retainers. . .etc? If it is too much.. I may just stay with my 1st gen and build that..and part out the 2nd gen
in the valve train...no and yes. i'll get a little more detailed on this later. this is for a 2nd gen GE right?
most likely..i took the head off and found some minor cracks that i want to get magnafluxed first so i know the head is still rebuildable..or total shit if that being the case ill either have to buy another gen 2 head or just stay with my gen 1, Dont know right now..if im lucky the ebay seller that sold me the engine will send me a head..in the least
That blows ok..well, get me the info on the 1st gen..cuz im not seeing any gen 2 heads for sale on ebay or anywhere else. Thanks. . Maf
write up in how to on the shimless buckets and toda is the only company that makes valve train for the 1st gen.
So Toda has the buckets only? or are you saying they carry the entire valve train? ..im not following your reply :?
the toyota echo has the buckets. toda has the springs, valves, retainers. i think ferrea might make something as well i don't remember.
You can get a gen 2 head from www.Toysport.com, but I'm not sure their pricing is the best. Some guys down south luv'em and others want to blow them up, but they do have gen2 heads if you want to go that route. If you can use the gen 2 (we can't in CA for smog reasons) it will certainly give you a big performance improvement over the gen 1.
Yeah, they wanted too much for the setup I needed, but they got a gen 2 long block for $650 they claim has less than 50k miles on it. I don't know how that compares to other places price wise, but it doesn't seem too bad for the extra 20+ hp and more lower end torque if you're already looking at $300-400 for a properly rebuilt head. Just a thought...
Yeah- Im pretty close to ToySport- they have good products but Durability and Finacally they are nit to sturdy- But they have a wide varity of engines for all your swap needs..... :?
Yes, I believe the heads are a direct swap since I don't think they made any bottom end changes between 1st and 2nd gen. Everything was in the head. We've got another place up here in Sacramento, www.attarco.com , that has a very good selection of engines. You might give them a buzz and see if they can help. They have way more engines than listed on their web site - like at least three gen 1 3SGEs, I just don't know about gen 2 heads or completes. I paid $350 for a JDM gen 1, complete w/ EGR porting. They were recommended to me by my mechanic who's being buying from them for years and said he'd only had a couple of problem engines and Attarco made good on them immediately. Just another option...
Attarco? Good guys - very old school. I expect (hope) you'll be as pleased as I was in dealing w/ them.
Ok..so i got the toda catalog in today and it list that the valve train/bearings parts they have fit the 3sgte..But say nothing about the 3sge..Is it the same head?
