so i have a question for those that have the starter problem

    ^But he said it was only the aftermarket alarm wiring that is melting; not the OEM stuff.
    [That's why I wondered about the gauge...]

    you must have a small short or a resistance in the engine harness. no way that should ever be hot.
    what voltage is your alternator putting out? (measured not with the stock gauge)

    stock says 17....not sure how to test any other way.

    17?!?!? volts? iirc should be like 13.8v

    i dunno......the volt meter in the car stays on 17 volts...but the cap i have in back says 13.4 when i boot up the car.

    The in-dash volt meter? I don't think I'd trust its accuracy.

    i know huh......i have an aftermarket one just havent hooked it up to see what it reads yet.....but the cap i have for my systems states 13.4.

    mine also reads like 16-17 volts but no way. according to the sparkys (electricians) at my work smaller wiring = greater resistance, so higher wire temps. i had to inquire about it before my wiring job.
