ok its been a long ass time between updates. Being broke, completely sleep deprived and a in a general shit mood does that, but moneys slowly coming in, the cars paid off and im getting my head straight again so im back in car mode

After Richs advice that a 205 shifter will bolt in with a shorter throw and nicer feel i spoke to someone selling a 205 shifter assembly for $50. I went to pick it up today when he said he found a 204 lever that looked identicle that i could have for $25. I carefully compared the 2 and they were exactly the same except (much to my surprise) the 204 was much longer under the pivot ball (shorter throw) so i opted for that (nothing stopping me from going back and getting the 205 setup). I got home of coarse couldnt wait to have a play. Heres the st162 lever(iv cut down and rewelded) and the 204(on the right)

    the pivot point
    [IMG]

notice its longer by about 10mm on the 204 which got me thinking. The 204 was longer than the 205 by much more than 10 mm.

I chucked the 204 lever in and it was definately shorter, felt prity notchy but the whole assembly needs a good coat of grease. How ever the bottom hits the assembly in 5th and reverse (5th to the point it wouldnt really engage).

if you look at the above pic^ i should be able to solve this problem simply by grinding out that square shape cut out in the base of the assembly, theres more than enough room under there for the shifter to then clear however i font have the access to power tools like that anymore and to rip out the entire assmbly looks like a bit of work so im undecided wether il do so.
I dont understand why the 204 lever would have a shorter throw than the 205? although the 205 assembly has a weird extra plastic piece in a semi circle sort of shape that connects to the lever above and below the pivot ball. i assume as a guide, maybe even giving like a rip shifter affect?
Also im certain that the 162 bottom is longer than the 205. im confussed :?: :?:

    Interesting

Can't you raise the ball holder with washers like they do on the aftermarket kits?,
or just raise the whole housing a few mm (4 bolts)

hi mate, for the life of me I cannot remember if we raise the ball holder

I will take some detailed pics of mine for you tomorrow if okay

I know this, we didn't have to grind anything back to ft it.

Re: Rev heads work in progress * BONNETS ON!!!!!!!*

Its the housing that its catvhing on not the actual floor i think simply raising the ball holder is the best bet.
At 1st i dscarded the thought due to the little baracket on the left hand side of the housing (held in by one bolt) that catches the end of the pin on top side (ok not describing it well but its cold and im not going to take a pic). but if since realised that bracket is slotted and i can move that up.
Washers undre the bolts is fine but how would i raise the base of the ball housing?(the black plastic circle piece that the ball sits into)

    thanks mate

not really an update but was on an ozcelica cruise yesterday bout an hours drive from home and 20 minute hoon from anywhere wen car spluttered and completely died. limped off to the side wouldnt even turn over. Tried jumping her. Shed start then soon as you took the leads off die again brilliant alternator or battery or both are fucked. Volts were around 5 on the gauge could get dash lights and thats bout it.
1 of the guys offered to take me to buy a battery and to be honest it was time for a new one anyway and at least a battery would get me home. Searched around a few servos for bout 45minutes til we found 1 that stocked batterys how ever we had to wait another 20minuts or so for the mechanic to come down and get it for us (hick towns what can ya do ay). Got back to the car were fyinix (AKA Jimmy) had helpfully ripped out the ol battery for me. Chucked the new fucker in and baboom running but on low volts still with battery warning light and the 1 that means not enough power to run the tal lights ??? drove it home.
Borrowed mums car and went to the factory today (bout 30min drive didnt want to risk it) and ripped out the alternator from the other celi. Got back swapped it with the 1 that was recoed with the engine say o 2.5 years ago :x and all is well.

All i can say im pleased about is that it happened on the cruise where there were people to help and thank fuck for a parts car! lol

Glad you got it sorted, charging issues always are a pain, but at least here it was a easyish fix.

Didn't you notice the charge light and your voltmeter dropping?

All you had to do was swap batteries with fynix to get home.

I have a box of spares which lives in the boot, inside is a spare
alternator charge ring, plugs, injectors, coil, dizzy, belts, radiator hoses,
towrope, jumper leads, fuses, bulbs, thermostat, wheelnuts, sensors,
tensioner, idler etc (cam cover is modded to change idlers, belts in minutes)

I blew a hose once about 300km out and decided it wasn't going to happen
again (friends etc were saying shit like "crappy Toyota") Truth is it can happen
to anyone but you know what people are like

If you charge up the old battery you may still be able to use it
    around the garage etc

Re: Rev heads work in progress * BONNETS ON!!!!!!!*

volts isnt something i always keep a close eye on, iv never had reason to in the past and about 15minutes prior we had pulled over and volts were displaying fine. I bought a new battery because i need a new one ragardless the one i was using was undersized and was only supposed to be a temporray fix. it was from the laser. I would also much rather buy a new battery than burdoun others with the worry of whether the battery will last. No point carrying a whole car wurth of spares in a car that has never ever given me reason to. Plus everyone knows you can carry everything but if somethings gonna fail you can bet your ass its the 1 thing you didnt bring. i always have oil, water, few tools, torch and some random hose off cuts anything more than that i think is overkill plus i get free roadside assisants and if its anything that cant be solved with those things i cbf doing it on the side of a road anyway.
Havent dicked around with the other battery yet but am confident shel be fine.
