This car is in mint condition. The car is completely flawless From what I see in the pics. It has a problem were it is running hot. Not over heating but running hotter than normal. The guy thought it might be the turbo and spent 1000 bucks at toyota going over the entire turbo system. That wasn't the problem. Im thinking its a headgasket, that is leaking combustion gases into the water heating it up. Let me know what you guys think. This is my first turbo car and a whole new learning curve. Thanks guys.

what has been replaced on the coolant system. that would help a bunch.

yeah I was gonna say first thing look at the cooling system and what was done. potentially a high-rated thermostat?

if it randomly heats up i would check the Thermostat first,

that was the problem in the speed, would over heat when you shut it off...

Had kinda the same prob with my 3sge, I replaced the thermostat, it seemed my heating radiator was clugged so I replaced that one as well and I'm about to change my radiator as well, then flow the system a few times.

Have a look at the coolant how does it look? Do you have any mess in it? or in the overflowtank?

    check the following:

    - thermostat
    - water pump
    - rad hoses
    - rad coolant (if it needs a flushing)
    - rad (if it leaks at all)
    - fan (if it turns on a operating temp)

that's pretty much the bulk of the cooling system.

so nobody thinks its the headgasket thing

pull off the radiator cap and start the car....if its bubbling in there then its a headgasket.

i would get a block test done. special dye in a special tool that allows you to see if you have CO2 in the coolant system. that means you have a blown HG.

I am onboard with 86celicast, if you get compression through the radiator, you have a headgasket issue.

A leak down test is a simple way to check the head gasket - any decent shop will have the equipment. (Basically, you put compressed air in each cylinder at TDC and see if it holds pressure. If not, you'll get a good idea where it's going from the hissing in the intake, exhaust, radiator, or oil system.)

Also, a good radiator shop can do a pressure test of your cooling system, that will tell you if it has leaks.

Beyond that, you'll have to get more specific and find out exactly when it overheats and what you just did.

i had a problem with a jeep cherokee, that had a cracked radiator overflow tank(sealed system) that would over heat because it couldnt build enough pressure to keep the water from boiling(due to the crack) check your radiator cap, at very least replace it, because if your cooling system cant build pressure the water will get hotter faster and boil at a lower temperature(which is why radiator systems have a cap rating to them.)

When going up hit it heats up. When going down it cools off. Also Mysterious disapearing water. Read below for details.

well I got it home. I baught the car and it wasn't overheating at all. But I took it from lynwood to seattle and got on the farry. No prob. Got of the farry and hit freeway and bam it spikes. I pull over. I rev it a little it drops. I pull out again. Just as I pull out get up to speed bam it flys right back over. So I pull over check fluids and top them off. Intercooler is cool it isn't heat soaked. Im then am able to travel 30 miles an hour in the emergency lane. I got it to were I was traveling 60 in 4th gear. No Higher or lower or it would spike. But while doing this it would go back and fourth. Almost to red and then back to half.

About 80 miles of this shit and I had to pull into a mcdonalds and get a bite to eat because my luck ran out and it wouldn't cool back down. So I let it sit for about a half hour while I ate and talked the the crew. I went back out topped it off (mysterious disapearing water) and left.

Now it is a normal opp temps. I boost it and Im going down the freeway at about 75 in 5th and just cruisen. Then it starts to heat up and am able to do 65 the whole way home in 5th instead of fourth.

Well so now its home and I had to just stop 2 more times after mcdonalds.

    Check your water pump man...

Also to be sure put a good gauge in it as well...

The guy said he put a new water pump in it.
He said he put a new radiator
He said he put a new "puke" clutch in it
He said he paid $400 for a new heater control unit

    A temp guage???

***update*** It only overheats now if I use alot of boost.
    1st is fine

    1st then second is fine

1st then second then third it heats start to go toward hot.
If I were to keep going it would over heat. I haven't taken it on the freeway since bringing it home but It does fine around town until I try to race someone.

Will it sit at an idle and not overheat?
