yea i'm gonna do this one. i went to home depot the other day and they didnt have enough of the 3/8" - 1/4" hose adapters. talked to the people there and they said monday is the next day they'll get their shipment. so monday it is..... i'll do a how to and what not to help others who want to do the mod. super easy, but like i always say, " some people just dont get it....."

the nicer looking ones are a no go for me. i dont want to put it next to the p/s reservoir or the wiper motor. i want to keep it on the side where the line comes out. that way there wont be an hose running to the right back to the left.

Here's a low-buck catch can idea, courtesy of Mitsubishi Motors. I pulled it out of a Mitsubishi in the wrecking yard, but there were lots of identical ones on Hyundais and Hondas too.

It's actually their power steering fluid reservoir and it's made of steel and has the appropriate fittings.
I cleaned it out and it even has a fine mesh screen filter inside. Mounting bracket below is off another junker. It's ghetto but can't beat it for only C$10. Nice and satin black to boot.
Top pic is how it normally looks. Bottom pic is how I'm gonna use it: upside down.

I ended up using the support bracket that came with the Mitsu instead of the bracket pictured above. All I had to was just bend it a little to custom fit and it bolted to the firewall through an existing hole (no drilling). I'm very pleased with the results.

    Hey, you work fast!
There's an existing firewall hole right near the heater hose inlet.
I would just try to find something that fits that position.

nah didnt work our for me. the throttle body is blocking a lot of things. its different for the alltracs. you guys have a little more room for things. the intake hose is also in the way. i have it mounted but no pictures of it.

which one is the INlet and which is for the OUTlet?

Hey, nice job. What I like about this mod (besides the low cost) is that it looks like factory.

I forgot that the 165 is a bit different; but you got it figured out. A little ingenuity goes a long way. I don't use a catch can on either of my 162s.

I used the SIDE fitting as the INLET and the TOP fitting as the OUTLET, but I don't think it matters that much. I set mine up like that b/c it fit the hoses best without having to make any sharp bends.

I don't bother putting the filter in either. Every once in a while, I remove the cap and let the oil drain out overnight or remove the whole can for a thorough cleaning.

TIP: I used 1/2" fuel line (oil resistant). It was a bit big for the fittings on my can, so I used a piece of thin, smaller diameter hose first, then slid the 1/2" hose on top of the smaller hose for a tight fit. Hose clamp keeps everything in place.

yea, the things is that the side one is actually a bit bigger than the top one. so i'll just get one thats the next size over and work with it or get adapters. but dont know that i will though.

    best $14.86 spent recently =]

^Mine was the same; one bigger than the other.
Best bang for your buck catch can.

lol and like you said, look oem! thats the best part.

but the only problem is, i cant find a place that carries the 1/2" tubing. home depot, but its like $12 for 5 ft. or something like that. dont need that much and dont want it sitting around either.

i also modified the mount. it doesnt look so industrial with all the nuts and bolts everywhere.

Try an industrial hose shop, that's where I buy mine from and they sell it by the foot.

So you ended up using one 1/2" INSIDE DIAMETER hose and the other smaller hose was 7/16" I.D. hose?
