My red 87 GT-S Coupe *very slow project*

so it turns out the beauty hatch is being driven by the guy at Toyota who sold me my Celi (he was driving that before I bought it too). They didn't really have a price tag on it since they just got it a little while ago but he said it would be around 5k :(

on the plus side he said if I decide to part mine out, he'd buy the gas door for $50 for his daughters. It appears she was offroading her 92 GT with her friends (not too good of an idea) and a dude with a truck backed into her car...but only damaged the gas filler door...go figure...

Also went and test drove a 5spd Yaris today, and I must say they're pretty good little cars, very roomy and surprisingly fun. Though the bitch is once you get A/C and power windows, plus taxes for A/C, tires, battery etc I could buy a 2004 Celi GT-S, which I'd much rather have.

Picked up a 1992 GT-S! Well technically my rents bought it for me as a grad gift. I should have some pics up soon.

As a result, the mighty 4g is gonna get towed home soon, I'm gonna keep it for a bit to see if I can find an engine for it at the wreckers or what have you, or possibly sell it as a shell/part it out. The only way I could justify keeping it is if my buddy crashes his MR2 when it gets here (highly likely actually) and I buy his 3S-GTE, turning my 4g into a weekend warrior.

so my parents want to force me to sell it, apparently some lady she works with wants to buy it (her b/f has a 4g) but I don't wanna sell it. my parents are like "well you have you new car and it's better" but it's so much more of a bitch to work on...and even though everyone likes the look of the 5g better the 4g owns it IMO.

yeah I've got a few friends talking to their rents cause they have lots of room/garages they don't use in the event that I have to get rid of it. 2 years til I move out....bah so far away. hell if I can get about another month that MR2 should be wrecked so I've got an engine cheap...get one of those tranny conversion kits and steal the rims and summers off my new car and I'd be set.

    ack noooo!

So my rents decided to give me another shot at getting the 4g fixed, well my mom did, cause my dad is going out of town for a week. She seems to think a local machine shop can rebuild it, but I know at least the exhaust cam would have to be replaced, plus those rods, and most liekly the pistons, and that's if the block isn't scratched.

So now I'm on a desperate search for an engine, I thought I'd found my dream GTE in alltrac.net but the guy decided to keep it instead of selling it, so I'm back to just looking for a 3S-GE. Only problem is I don't have a lot of money right now. Bah!

alright so I decided to start tearing the old block down, maybe see if it's good enough in there to be rebuilt. so as I pulled the upper timing cover off I found out where my oil was leaking from. sweet jesus it was everywhere! my exhaust cam looks fine though, and so do the cam gears. the timing belt doesn't look too old either. I also got half the harness off and the intake manifold is half off. for some reason the drive end of it doesn't want to pop off. I broke a plastic nub that a small hose goes onto in the process of prying it though

    pics hopefully up tomorrow.

alright so today I totally ripped her apart. the 2nd cylinder was missing its TVIS butterfly, which was nowhere to be found. The head looked like it had been replaced, since I found a bunch of writing on it. It turned out that I didn't snap a connecting rod, but I did pulverize the 3rd piston's bearing and the top of the piston was pretty toasted too. the crank got a bit fuckered from the two bad cylinders (2 and 3) but 1 and 4 seemed pretty good. It's looking like the only parts salvageable will be the block and accessories, I'll start picking through everything this week to sort out what I can sell and what's garbage.

haha gimme your engine anyways ;)

I'll go snap some pics in a bit, it's pretty fucked looking. I coulda just dropped the pan and done a bearing job but it wouldn't really have been worth it.

the rad. oddly enough it didn't overheat once I replaced the thermostat.

the head, the writing makes me think it was replaced at some point, the gasket and block make me think so too.

They must've been out before, the book told me there'd be a ridge to remove so the pistons could come out the top, but it wasn't there.

alright my parents had a garage sale and we had 3 people interested in the shell. So I'm finishing taking out my speakers putting the dash and such back together, as well as hitting the wreckers for a speedo/odo because I want to keep the old one. If noones buys it and makes it their project I'll be pulling everything that I can and slowly selling it to you guys because it will be sent to the wreckers by my parents. I'm so bummed but if someone buys it and fixes it maybe I can buy it back in 2 years when I have money.
