man ohhhh man! my car shat itself about 4 hours ago... and about 20 mins from home too...

    ok, heres what its doin:
i was driving it normally after just installing driving lights and what not.. then i went to start it and it just wont start! it kicks over and it gets so close to starting. i am positive its not the battery, not the fuse's... so i think we have narrowed it down after ages of testing, to it not producing a healthy spark enough to burn the fuel... it kicks over fine but wont go any further... tried roll and push starting it. checked all the fuses that we could find.

what the F*#K could be wrong with it?? its now stranded in the most ghetto part of town all locked up with a sign in the window saying "Broken Down" so no dreg tries to brake in a steal it...

its getting fuel and all that... im thinking its the coil maybe? of the spark plugs, but it was driving fine like 20 mins b4 it died.. no hassles at all ay...

i really need some help on this one asap so i can go down and try and start it and save my poor celi from being broken into...

i didnt wanna call for road side assistance yet cause it costs heaps when ur not a member and all that.

its seriously hurting my brain trying to figue out how to get it started.. its weird, like a wire was bumped out or something. its just not goin any further than kicking over..

    HELP HELP HELP!!!

any help will be much appreciated guys! thanks,

    Alex

UPDATE: i 'legally' (hahaha not) towed it back to my house behind a mates 4x4... it made it and i still have my license, ie we didnt run into any police on the trip home hahaha

my poor little car lol its either the fuel or the spark.. i cant think of anything else cause it all seems to be working...

how can i check the spark and the ignition and the fuel lines just to narrow it down even more??

I would try and check all the wires on the distributor, and push them on snug, alot of times they wiggle/slide off after a long time, also, check the plug that goes to the ignition box, usually found on the strut tower, just to the right of the center mount. That was pretty loose on my gts.
    Good luck

You can squeeze the hose just after the fuel filter and see if there's pressure there....it's caveman but it'll tell ya...it should be solid not squishy at all...

did you try new spark plugs yet? that might be a good idea....

^ what they said. while you're at the distrbutor may as well double check the cap and rotor too. Celi's seem to like breaking down in the ghetto parts of town for some reason haha.

what you really should do is loosen the nut on the fuel filter... i did that, i got fuel in a friends eye. that had to hurt. If theres pressure, it will spray everywhere. For spark..... check ur plugs first, see if they have where and tear.

I wouldn't recommend loosening the nut on the fuel filter since it uses crush washers and that might cause a leak to form permanently!

ok, checked the water temp connectors, and tried to do the diag thing with the engine codes and what not, but it turns out the bulb is blown for the engine light, as of yesterday...

is it a PITA changing the bulb over and what sort of bulb is needed?

can someone show me exactly where the fuel pump is with a pic, i think i have found it but just wanna make sure.. is it near the almost directly below the ignition coil? and to the right of the distributer ??

i got a mechanic to come have a look at it 2day for free.. he said there was no spark after he fiddled with a few things.. i kinda gathered that..!

what are the possibilities causing it to not spark???

First thing. The fuel pump is under the back seats. You have to pop a couple plastic clips that are flush between the bottom of the foam seat and the carpet. Its right in the middle of the two back seats, under the black thing.

    Moving on...

Provided that the problem is caused by no spark, you need to check your plugs, wires, cap and rotor (the distributor cap that the spark wires all lead to, and if a 5th wire leaves from that, check and replace if necessary the wire leading to the spark box. Check that the sensors connected to both areas, especially the spark box.

If there is corrosion on the finger of the rotor or the 4points on the cap, you should replace them, but you can get sandpaper to clean them up and get a better spark to the engine.

Are your RPM's getting high enough? because a bad starter/battery/cable/alternator can give a lot of the same symptoms, and the engine will turn but not fast enough to catch and keep spinning. Had this problem on both of my cars. GTS needed a starter, and the GT needed a new battery/cap/rotor.

    Good luck 8)

use a multimeter and check the coils resistances to see if its ok . easy to check and its only one for the whole system ;p i have the proper specs for teh resistances and how to do it if needed

iv checked over the ignition system a few times and had the mechanic come and have a look 2day... theres no corrosion at all, all the sensors and connected, all the cables are connected. its just losing its spark somewhere along the line..

    and guessing the coil

one of the cables that plug into the nuber one spark plug looks like a rats chewed at it, but even so, the others arent getting a spark anyways... ill have to replace that now i think. along with new spark plugs and maybe the coil. the battery is new. the dizzy may need a through check...

    thanks for you help everyone

ill post up progress as i find new things out and fix this (small) problem

    FIXED FIXED FIXED!!!

well, i charged the battery up and then (after putting all the interior back in - including the proper kill switch -derrr alman!) kicked it over and nothing... then switched the kill switch around and kicked it over and it started first go!

so maybe when the wires of the kill switch were just exposed they shorted on some metal or werent connected properly (althought i checked a zillion times)

anyways, point is its all fixed!

thanks for your help everyone who contributed!!
