My "new" steering wheel!

I've been meaning to write this up but I had the wreck in Jan and I've been focused on the repair.

My first Celica was the first gen '76 '77. They have the coolest steering wheel which has Four horn buttons: two at 3 o'clock and two at 9 o'clock, front and behind the wheel. The grip is slightly thinner than the OEM wheel.

I found one at the junkyard on a '76 Corona last year! $12.

    The spindle is the same.

    Issues:
I had to do some drilling to make the turn signal pins (3) work with this wheel which only has two holes.

The horn disc has a smaller diameter. At the junkyard I found a trashed '80s Camry steering wheel with the correct diameter brass disc. After some Dremel cutting of the tabs, I screwed it into place with some crushed aluminum foil between the two discs to help with continuity.

I also took apart the four horn switches, sanded the contacts and added some dielectric grease to the contacts.

I found the correct Celica dragon center cap on eBay to cover the center nut.

Now I have the coolest steering wheel to blow my Hella Supertone horns!

    pics to follow ..

It's a little big but the Dragon brings it all together.

And who cares if its big it's on a convertible I could imagine cruising with the top down whippin' corners with that wheel

Actually it is the same diameter .. But the thickness of the grip is less.

I like to be able to "hit the horn" without moving my hands .. Sometimes I grip only the buttons "jet fighter" style ..
