Hi all, im warwick and a complete newbie ( well i wouldnt say total newbie, i have done a fair bit of reaserch on the ins an outs an read alot of forums aswell lol, but its my first ever woning one tho lol) to the wonderful world of the ST162, i got this little beauty a couple of days ago for a really good price, its onlt the ST model and shes runnin the plain 3sfe engine, granted she has a few issues that need fixing (ie headgasket on way out and a slight trans leak) but other than that shes in good nick, the bonus is i got the full top end gasket kit with new head bolts aswell. but that said she still drives fine and goes like a rocket considering. so over the next few days ill be pulling the head off and swapping the hg, i am planning on pulling the whole motor out and putting in either a 3sgte or maybe a 5sfe, im open for options lol. thanks
Hey welcome, it all depends on what exactly you are looking for in a car. From what ive seen the turbo models always need rebuilt however you get the best hp from em. and i know a 5sfe can be turned into a 5sge, with a few parts hehe, really it all depends on exactly how much work you wanna do, just remember before you go out and begin buying engines that you will also have to swap out your wiring harness and ecu as well, and depending what transmission you have and which engine you want to use you will likely ant to swap the tranny out for something better. As for mine,,, im waiting till i can find a totaled car with a redtop or blacktop beams in it that i can get cheap, that way when i go to do a swap its alll right there in the parts car hehe.
cheers guys thanks shaun yeh there is only 3 spots of rust that ive found sofar, yeh i know what ya mean spyder, i fully intend on doing as much research an homework on what i want before i go an buy a heap of parts that have me takin a 2nd mortgage out on the house lol, im not necessarily after huge hp, (at the moment till the bug bites) as it is the little 3sfe an 4sp auto box (elec o/d) still have a bit of kick left in them, (makes for some fun driving) but i wouldnt mind a newer engine perhaps a 5sfe/5sge mounted up to a manual box, i will definitely be doing the brake upgrade at some stage, can never have too much stopping power (well thats my theory anyway). But a Huge priority atm for me is sounds, as it has no stereo and i have to have tunes to listen to while cruisin around. As i go changing/upgrading/fixing thins on the ol girl i will post pics and a write up of how what an why for any who would be interested, Ciao for now
