Would an after market muffler provide any power increase? if so what are the chances its better than the one that was just replaced (i don't know what brand it is, but it seems to growl pretty low)?
Only if you have the proper Piping to go with it- cause Stock piping is ok but 3 inch piping with a good exhaust will give ya 4-6 GTS..
3"? on a GTS? 2.5 tops, no need for 3" unless you have boost but a factory style muffler won't help you out any. you'll need a pass through style mufler.
on a track car you don't need half the crap you do on a street car. send me a PM and i'll get some specs up for ya.
so to sum up, with a decent aftermarket muffler I would probably push a few more horses out of the gts?
ill try to get a few pics of my exhaust system, i dont know what its running right now, but i know it was replaced a couple months ago. I also have a hose to nowhere in my engine bay. its right around where the Tvis gets connected on the pasanger side but i cant find where it would go. ill try yo get a pic but if u have any guesses its got 1/2 diamiter and about 1/4 of hole. if i follow it down i believe its got a foam tube surrounding it later on and as far as i know leads down towards the bottom area of the engine, but i don't know if it connects anywhere.
considering that looks like the factory size of resonator, it looks like factory piping too sooooooo 1.75" ID
looks like 2" to me, bent on a huth bender. the pipe looks ok, not great but ok. if it's 2.25 just get a muffler. if it's 2 i would go 2.5 cat back
don't scare me with the R word! its not bad, just a bit of surface rust in places. Its pretty rust free from what i can tell. Please excuse the dumbness but what exactly is cat back, ive always herd it but never known forsure
it replaces all the piping from the CATalyctic converter BACK to, and including, the muffler. hence catback.
Dude Fuck the Muffler- your better get a new trailing arm- cause your shit is going to break apart into dust!! :?
Its seen 19 winters in Canada, its just surface rust, nothing compromising the structure. if you look at this pic you can still fresh metal under the rusts that's formed. eather way ill hit it with a wire brush and some rust paint tomorrow to be sure. Ill also measure the pipes, i have a week off school. SO much car time its nice. Painted all my trim today and the cars lookin' aces now
I just recently went back to a stock system after running straight pipe...then a dynomax turbo with no cat. And I can physically feel a slight loss in power....nothing really substantial though. But if you are running track then the numbers are what you are after and every little bit counts
