Yep..... Some tosser was doing some paint work on the top of the car and didn't prep properly :aargh What I mean is what sort of chemical or otherwise on how to get it off without damage. It's only on the PLASTIC at the top near the window, this plastic is not quite smooth. Thanx
Re: How do I remove white paint overspray from the door inte take benzine with and old tooth brush and brush it off we use thinners but if you not used to it don't use it.
Re: How do I remove white paint overspray from the door inte Ok..... so Benzine being a petroleum........ how about I use a soft cloth with a light touch of petrol/gas and go gentle to get it off quick and then a quick wipe witlh a damp cloth because we know how petroleums eat plastic ? I have used petrol/gas over the years to remove paint from many things including plastic and on plastic it generally leaves noticable swirl marks which I'm trying to avoid. The overspray is very light but noticible.
Re: How do I remove white paint overspray from the door inte just brush it off with a nail brush and soap if you say it's light petrol don't remove paint as far I know
Re: How do I remove white paint overspray from the door inte I'v tried that........... this shyte has been on there for awhile before I bought the car and YES, petrol removes paint similar to thinners but the longer the paint has been there the harder it is to remove ie.... lots of rubbing which I'm trying to avoid, especially on plastic. Any more suggestions ?................ anyone ?
Re: How do I remove white paint overspray from the door inte compound wheel and then spray the plastic black after....
Re: How do I remove white paint overspray from the door inte use the meguiars clay, works like a charme and no chemicals involved.
Re: How do I remove white paint overspray from the door inte Or maybe you can try nail polish remover. Works wonders. Don't think it will mess up the plastic though.
Re: How do I remove white paint overspray from the door inte nail polish remover will kill plastic...it will soften and even melt plastics . Try the clay, it's non chemic and easy to use.
Re: How do I remove white paint overspray from the door inte Well, that being said. Nail polish shouldn't even BE your last option :lol2
Re: How do I remove white paint overspray from the door inte Thank you so far, keep those ideas coming. I am analyzing and researching all suggestions as we go. I can't help thinking nail polish would be too harsh. Meguiars clay seems perfect for smooth surfaces but this plastic on the door trim is slightly rough-ish.
Re: How do I remove white paint overspray from the door inte as Clay is easy to knead/work it will go into the roughness of the door trim . Make sure you use it in combination with something like quick detailer from Meguiars. That's what I did myself and it really worked out great. And afterwards you can still use it to clean your whole car as you don't use the whole claybar for the trim .
Re: How do I remove white paint overspray from the door inte Gotcha, someone like yourself that keeps mentioning it and seems confident I will try it and as you say I can use these products on the rest of the car. I think I remember seeing a TV show (ie.. Top Gear ?) that showed a guy running a business using clay and other products on high end cars. We have Supercheap Auto here in town that sells Meguiars products, I will keep you all posted.
Re: How do I remove white paint overspray from the door inte The best clay is "Clay Magic" medium grade red bar. Probably have to order it though as most stores only carry the "fine" grade blue bar.
Re: How do I remove white paint overspray from the door inte Thanks Andrew....... I'll suss it out and hope to start getting this shit of my car soon :aargh I'm also going to chat with a couple of local detailers for their opinion on what they would do and then make a decision on what to use because I reckon I'll only get one chance with no damage hnoes How's your car going ?....... I know you don't drive it much :cheers
Re: How do I remove white paint overspray from the door inte My car is going strong man, 91,880 miles on it. I have had it for a year and have put a whopping 800 miles on it! :lachtot I drive it back and forth to work when it is nice outside and no chance of rain. The funny thing is that my work commute is 8 miles round trip and I have 3 other cars to choose from to drive, including a 86 Celica gt (95,000 miles). I just don't get out much and when I do I live so close to everything in town, plus I'm old (39 lol) have a wife and 4 kids that keep me busy. I am easy on my cars because I don't want them to break. I'm keeping the IMSA for the long haul though and joke to my wife that before I die I will donate it to the Toyota museum.. :hehe
