    As the title says, when does everyone shift daily driving? And how do you position your seat?

    I usually shift like this for economy:

    1st->2nd - 2500-3000
    2nd->3rd - 2500
    3rd->4th -2500-3000
    then 5th once I'm at cruising speed or when I get up to about 3000 RPM.

    I usually shift up to 5th while driving around in the city doing 40-60Km/h and start from 2nd at most traffic lights, just because I can :D

    When I need to get somewhere fast I shift at around 4000-5000 on most gears.

    I find that if I shift into 2nd earlier I get better accelleration, because it's a longer gear.

    On motorways I have more fun :p So much vibration at 120Km/h with misaligned wheels!

    I have my seat set up so that the leg lifter thing is on the highest setting and the seat reclined slightly, pushed back so that my legs aren't bent too much.

    How about you guys? :D

    Man I'm pulling away in second and in 5th from 40ks up, TEMS has uncanny torque and will climb the steepest hills at 40ks in 5th.
    Thats actually not fuel efficient, I'm just too lazy to chuck the lever around all the time on these crappy roads.

    I tend to keep the revs down as it makes a loud bang changing at 4000+rpm and a loud crackle on the overrun.
    I've scared a few cyclists and joggers already so try to not cause any more heart attacks.

    I test fitted a vacumm gauge the other day and it definitelty shows that the less you move your acc pedal, the more fuel you save.
    That combined with low revs will give the best economy and less wear on the motor but they tend to carbon up quicker and need an occasional blast.

    I like to have my legs as straight as and the backrest straight up too.
    I switched to ST182 seats for more lumbar and side support and the rails were modded to give my 6'4" legs some room

    You didn't get adjustable lumbar support with your stock 162 seats?

    I don't like shifting over 4500RPM because my clutch master and engine mounts are shot, doesn't like coming out of gear then bunnyhop into the next gear :p

    I have to granny mine through first, second and third. Any attempts to get on it result in wheel spin. I need new tires...

    3-4k on 1st (because it's such a damn short gear to get any speed)
    2-3k on 2-4
    5th for cruising
    seat pretty straight, leg raiser all the way up.

    if i'm not fully stopped, 2nd gear is just right. i still want a s54 :/

    wow...if not warm yet...shift at <3500rpm at no boost. If warm and cruising, 4500 rpm or so without boost...if having fun, 7000rpm and 1bar boost :). Man the last part is the best !!! lol

    Sorry for the semi-offtopic. I shift my corolla cold at 3000rpm and warm depending on what action I'm doing, overtaking I can go up in revs without any thoughts, still good on milage :).

    lol Willie, I don't have any get outta jail free cards
    I remember the days when you were too pissed to drive and the cops would escort you home, you wheelied your bike and they would cheer you on, they would help you put out your burning brakes etc, etc

    I found the st162 lumbar just wasn't enough and made me feel like a hunchback

    Once you see reds and blues it's a bit too late :p I shift into neutral if I'm going down a long downhill road, still have power steering but I don't waste fuel :thumbsup:
    What speed do you get at 3K in 5th? I think I get about 90-100?

    I'm a granny...

    Warm... 3K 1st-2nd
    then 3500 2nd-3rd
    then pretty much 3K to 5th...

    I get crappy mileage as I have a semi congested commute... <45mph most of the route... 16 of 22 miles round trip...

    Wow, you guys start in 2nd? Isn't that bad for the clutch?

    I only keep it in 2nd if I have to slow down for a speed bump, because these trannies don't like to get it into 1st gear while the car is still moving.
    When I change depends on my mood and the density of traffic. When it's crowded, there is no point to rev it more, I shift at 2500, when there is noone before me, and I'm not in a hurry, 3000-3500. And when I feel like it and the roads are empty, anywhere before 7200 :)

    1st gear short? I can go up to ~60kmh in 1st, many times I see others around me changing in 3rd when I change to 2nd (not pushing, just normal pace).

    I was always told to start in second gear. My parent's BMW X5 has steptronic transmission and at a red light it automatically drops to 2nd gearand stays there unless I move the shifter to the gear of my liking. So looks like starting from 2nd gear is economy driving.

    Yep, I drove an old Tarago and it started in 2nd when overdrive and economy modes were on.

    I mean compared to the other gears, it might just be because you reach high revs pretty quick in 1st too..

    with a leaking flexpipe, the speed to noise ratio on first gear is ridiculous.

    With a leaking god-damn-everything, the speed to noise ratio in every gear is ridiculous.
    I have a stock exhaust system with genie headers and it rumbles almost like a fart can, just less farty and more rev-happy 4cyl noise.

    i'm at 70mph in 5th at 3K give or take. depends on tire temp (racing compounds). i've seen a variance of 5mph + or -.
