well, as you guys know, i had a problem with gas. it seemed to have gotten better, but about a month ago, it just plummeted. what great time eh? as soon as gas prices get hiked, the way my car eats gas gets worse......... :banghead
i used to average about 240 miles before i fill up, now im only geting 168! :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss

    things i've noticed:
-car doesnt pick up like it used to
    -struggles to go

i also replaced both of the front hub bearings, so im picking up a bit better. but still, its pretty bad

is this a sign of motor swap?

I guessing ethanol related in combination with something else simple like say incorrect tire pressure or something. Is it throwing any codes? When was the last time you did a full ignition tune-up (plugs-wires-cap-rotor)?

Try some injector cleaner Kev, may have a sticky injector

I thought this as well - till I realised I was only getting 7L for $20 and not 10L
like I was a few weeks/months ago :aargh

Could be a bad spark plug/wire ??? Incorrect gap ??? Or your timing/idle could need to be checked. You MAY have a catalytic converter starting to get plugged up also.....

tire pressure is good. just pressurized it about a month ago. i was rolling on 18 psi when i shoulda been at 49!! :ack2
and its not throwing any codes either. the only one that is goin is the AC code. my AC doesnt work, so i unplugged it years ago. still looking for an air comperssor

will do sir! thanks! i need to clean my fuel system the best i can so that i can max out the miles before filling up again.

well. actually, come to think of it. i put in some new spark plugs, but i didnt check the gap though. that might be the culprit. i am due for a complete tune up though. thanks!

lol wow. believe it or not, people know me through my car and respect me as well. hopefully that will never happen to me. lol nice one though

One of the most obvious things to check when you have a sudden drop in MPG is bad o2 sensor

Marc is kinda right.... A plugged Catalytic converter will do the same thing. Just repaired a car with the same problem last month.

but its not throwing out that code though. how much would one cost anyways?

find out and let me know! =] summer is around the corner.

how would i go about cleaning it?

You can't clean a cat, you have to get a new 1 or at least a decent used 1.

Easiest way to check the cat is to take the exhaust off at the manifold, secure the pipe, and try driving it up and down the road. You won't have to drive far at all to feel the difference in power and response. If the acceleration and power are there, you have a plugged cat....

Don't drive too far or to hard... open exhaust isn't really good for the engine... But for a test, you should be fine...

Sadly it not always throws a code when O2 sensor is bad :S

tha cat contains a ceramic honeycomb. it will either be plugged up or falling apart. would need to replace it with a new one. try the o2 first. if you need a cat and can wait a bit (maybe a month) id give you the one i have (be your 2ndary cat under the firewall) just pay for the shipping. looks new and has a cali emmis stamp but will further investigate when its off. my car is emmisions exempt now, so i dont need it, and ill be pulliing it when i put the header on.

dang, that sucks then. i should probably go with toyota eh?

sounds good. but i have the FE motor and the cat is right in your face when you open the hood. =]

take a look underneath. i think cali models have 2, one at the mani and 1 under the firewall area. though more likley the one at the mani woulod be bad.
