Our first NASA race is Feb 9-10th at CMP, and I'm hoping to get the Yaris on Track at some point that weekend. Kind of a light entry so far, so might be able to squeeze in the HPDE 3 group, or maybe go out with the DE 2 guys and try to behave myself!! http://nasa-se.com/weblist.php?eventid=2013 Winter Meltdown racerb :driving
Gotta build an engine and finish the rollcage, oh and about half a million other loose ends to tie up!
To run HPDE and Time Trials no cage is required, but encouraged. I will be racing wheel-to-wheel with the Celica, so cage is required. I put a roll bar in before ever putting the car on track just for my own feeling of safety, but I'm adding the full cage next. Here is the cage kit for our cars and the one I'll be installing soon..... http://www.ioportracing.com/Merchan...=PROD&Product_Code=33470&Category_Code=AP6470 racerb
If any of you guys will be in the Camden/Kershaw SC area next weekend, here is the weekend race schedule, should be a fun event! http://nasa-se.com/pdf/skeds/2013Feb09.pdf racerb :driving
Well what a crazy weekend, racing and HPDE sessions went very well, but I was forced to jump right in with both feet! To explain, I was planning a quite weekend learning to handle the morning Corner Worker meeting and distributing equipment, well that went OK! Well soon after, I was to train in the Control Tower on running Race Communications. Again as we were getting ready to start, the Chief of Race Control has to leave for health reasons and I'm now moved into a Control possition. Then as if things couldn't get any wilder, the Chief Communicator is called away because his Wife is being rushed to the Hospital, again I'm moved up another place in the Tower. Well with the Chief Communicator/Flag Chief gone, my trainer for Corner Worker Trainees is now gone, leaving yours truelly to handle Sunday morning Worker Training class! Once the dust had settled, so to speak and the classroom portion of my weekend was behind me, it was time to return to the Control Tower. This time I'm now given the task of running all HPDE sessions and Time Trial seesions for the remainder of the day, made it through all but the very last session. With just minutes before final checkered flag of the weekend, a driver pulls off coarse and will have to be flat towed to the pits. So I have to call for an early checker from Start and dispatch a roll-back and EV to the scene for a pick-up. Even though we gave an early checker we had to stay in the Tower and make sure everyone was off the coarse and accounted for. Oh and worst part, my Brother was working the turn where the driver pulled off and had to stay on station till the wrecker crew was underway from the scene. It was his first weekend working with NASA, so he got a little more time out on coarse, wether he wanted it or not. Well now we can make plans for Road Atlanta in March, maybe I'll not have to work sooo hard there!! Here are some pics from the weekend, thats me in the blue sweeter in the Control Tower, all you see is the back of my head! http://nasasoutheast.shutterfly.com/3652 racerb:crazy
