it looks great but there is one thing i have always tried to figure out with something like that wouldnt the engine get wet when it rains, and isnt cooler water bad for an engine if it hits? I was always told that things would crack if you get the engine wet.
I duno, my engine hasn't cracked when I drove through puddles.... Or when it snows and slush hits the engine...it doesn't crack... The engine bay is far from waterproof as it is...I can't see how that would be true...
best way to learn is to practice!! this is pretty much my first time workin with the stuff.... that only has one sheet of fiberglass per side, soaked in the resin, then applied to the hood and smoothed out the best i could, then sanded, next is the grille thats goin in (which will match the front grille on the car), then bondo and sand it all smooth!
nice custom work! and is that a snowmobile back there? as far as the cold water etc problem, they rally cars through massive cold mud pits and puddles all the time! you'll split the block if you either filled it up with cold coollant when it's hot or maybe if you dropped the whole thing into an ice tank for a while.
splash guards are for noobs.... and people who have patience looks good, i got my glass ready to go for my kickpods and eventual new air damn/lip practiced a year back or so making a trunk cover for my friend, finished but never painted ;x
Yeah I think most of the shaping will be done with bondo.... I'll work on it a bit more today but I still have holes to patch in my car...so I don't want to waste all my bondo on my hood scoop lol
If the rest of the car wasn't falling apart I'd use some sheet metal and a mig welder....but ....It's almost not worth all that work since I'm afraid it's only a matter of time before the car falls apart, lol
you'll needa at least 3 or 4 more layers of matting....it has to be real tough and thick before you even begin to hit the bondo stage. I had nothing but trouble making mine...every time I heated it up it warped and cracked and whatnot. I think making one from scratch is more trouble than it is worth. If I did it again I would cut one out of another car and then mold it on
Ah I only did it because I had an extra hood to mangle, and some fiberglass....this shit is extra strong matting though, but I can see it cracking if heated too much...I duno if I'm gonna waste more fiberglass on it tho..I might just smooth it out from here and paint it just for shits.
i measured, mapped and cut mine and i still had to play with the mounting of it. talk about pissed off! lol.
